Windows 10 DISM tool - unable to find Source File

    Hello everyone,

I've been having a terrible time trying to diagnose and fix corrupted system files. I have recently updated to windows 10 during the free upgrade process. I was running Windows 7 Pro before I updated.

I have tried sfc /scannow command multiple times, in safe mode and in normal operation.

Every time I get this message:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios."

So researching online, I found that using the DISM tool will fix this issue.

However every time I run the command, I get this:

    "Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

I've even tried mounting the windows 10 iso that I downloaded from the media creation tool and running it again, however I still get the same message to no avail. I've seen other forums with users saying to use the original windows 10 iso and not to use the iso created by the media creation tool. However I can't seem to find this file and am not sure it would work anyways.

I've searched this forum and found multiple threads for this same issue. It turns out people had to d/l another .iso than the one media creation tool made them. However, every download link for those .iso files are now not available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Windows 10 DISM tool - Unable to find Source File

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I am now more confused, lol. So if i'm understanding this correctly, the reason the DISM tool isnt working is because my windows update is not working?

I'm not sure what to do, since I did try using the windows .iso from the media creation tool and then mounting it as specified , and it still gives me the error that source files could not be found.

Any other ideas or solutions to fix this?

Windows 10 DISM tool - Unable to find Source File

I'm having the same problem. I followed the instructions provide at the link and continue to get the same error...that the source can't be found. I've tried the online command provided at the link and an offline command with a mounted ISO downloaded from
Microsoft and still get the problem. I'm trying to fix a corrupted opencl.dll file.

    Any help would be appreciated

Hello, your reference for DISM is this:
DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image - Windows 10 Forums

Now, let's check your Windows version.
Have you applied the anniversary upgrade?
Press the Windows key + R, type Winver and post what you see.

Now, one of the options in the link above is to download new files (ONLINE option); another is to use e.g. an iso file as source.

Is the iso you have for the previous (1511) build or is it the anniversary build?
Your iso must match the major build version of your installed OS, and be 32 bits if 32 bits or 64 if 64.

Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums
    and to check if needed:
ISO - See what Language, Edition, and Architecture of Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

The same comments about the iso file (or created boot disk or bootable USB drive) you use if you go on to do an in-place upgrade repair - which may be simpler).

Thanks for the reply! I don't think i have the windows anniversary update. I did the windows + r, and it shows that my version is 1511 (10586-545) .

It also is Windows 10 64 bit if that helps.

As for the version of the iso I have, i am not sure. How do i check?

If I do an in-place upgrade repair, will it ask me for a product key. I'm worried, since I don't have it, since i updated during the free period.

Also, I've heard that I would lose my programs with this method, however, you say I won't. I just want to be sure that I don't lose my programs such as MS Office , adobe design suite, etc..

If you took the free Upgrade you have what is called a Windows 10 Digital Entitlement which is tied you your computer's motherboard , and the Key is stored on the M$ Activation Servers , so that if you need to Clean install even ,you don't need a Key as the activation Server "knows" your Motherboard , and activates automatically.

An Inplace Upgrade does not wipe any of your files out, it only replaces Windows Own Files , read the screen carefully so you don't miss the "Keep everything" Option though . You could actually download the AU/1607 Update ISO and then do the inplace Upgrade so you get the Latest version of Win10 at the same time too.

    Thanks again!

Is this the same 64bit windows 10 pro I have? I also notice, there is 3 options, Windows 10, Windows 10 N, and Windows 10 Single language. Not sure which one to download.

Sorry to pester you so much, lol.

Missed your reply , it was late here , it is the latest ISO 1607 , you will see that in the link once you choose Windows 10 and confirm , then which language and Confirm as well. If you hold your mouse over the 32bit or 64 bit buttons , you should see on the status line the file the button links too.

not sure if this will work but the direct link to 64bit 1607 is
