Windows 10: Windows 10 Display Settings Recommended Resolution Setting is Incorrect

I'm trying to drive an external monitor from my Lenovo ThinkPad. The laptop screen's maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080, and the monitor's maximum resolution is 2560 x 1440. The problem is that Windows 10 limits the maximum resolution of the external monitor to the lower resolution of 1920 x 1080. In other words, when I navigate to Display Settings > Display Resolution, I see "1920 x 1080 Recommended". I expected to see "2560 x 1440 Recommended". It seems that Windows 10 is not detecting the external monitor's native resolution.


Here's what I did to troubleshoot the problem:


• I rolled back the graphics driver and rebooted. This made no difference.

• I deleted the graphics drivers, rebooted, and then I installed the latest graphics drivers from Intel, and rebooted. It didn't make a difference.

• I installed the latest drivers for my Samsung monitor. That didn't help either.

• I connected the laptop to another external monitor identical to the first externa monitor. No difference.

• I connected the video cable to an alternate DVI port. No difference.

I'm afraid I've run out of ideas to try - and would appreciate any help at all. :-

Where are the resolution/refresh rate settings in AMD Crimson?

Having to use Windows display settings manager to change resolution. Advanced display settings shows the resolution but to change refresh rate i have to go to display adapter properties!

It's just a longer step than it being right there one click away in CCC. Not only that but CCC is still there in Crimson if you use the advanced settings.

 

Change the Resolution setting on the moniter

Hello, to change your screen resolution, please follow these steps:

1) Open Start, select Settings then select System and then select Display. Alternatively, you can right click the background on your desktop, and select Display Settings.

2) Under Scale and layout, check the setting under Change the size of text, apps, and other items. We suggest you use the percentage marked "(Recommended)."

3) If that doesn't solve your problem, under Resolution, select a new value. We suggest you stick with the resolution marked "(Recommended)."

Display Resolution for two monitor have different settings

The display resolution depends on the monitors that you have plugged into your computer. The display resolution modes will vary with each display based on the video card device, monitor size, video driver, and monitor driver.
By default, Windows chooses the best display settings for your PC based on your monitor, so it is recommended to set the screen resolution of the display to the (Recommended) native resolution to get the best display on your monitor.

To have better clarity on the issue, let us know the model numbers of your monitors, so that we can provide you the exact display resolution which is recommended to your monitors.

Meanwhile, try the below methods and see if this helps.

Changing the Display Resolution from Settings.

Step 1: Right Click on an empty space on the desktop and click on
Display Settings.

Step 2: In the
Display Settings window, scroll down and click on 'Advanced display settings' option under
Multiple displays.

Step 3: Then, click on
Display adapter properties for Display 1, Display 2, or
Display 3; whichever monitor you want to change the resolution for.

Step 4: Once the Display properties pops-up, click on 'List All Modes' option.

Step 5: Select a display mode that you want for the selected display and click on
OK.

Step 6: Then, click on
Apply and OK for the changes to take effect.

If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver by opening
Device Manager, right-click on the monitor drivers, and select
Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the drivers.
