  1. Windows 10 does not always recognize MP4 files

Sometimes the video streams, other times I get the message ...

Can't play. Try playing something else. This items file format may be unsupported, the file extension incorrect, or the file may be corrupted 0xc00d36c4 (0xc00d36c4)

I know that the file extension is correct, and the file is not corrupted.
I didn't ever have this problem when using Windows 7.
    Suggestions appreciated
    thx

    :)

  2. How to remove pesky "How do you wish to open this file?" window

Re: Popup requester asking "How do you want to open this file?"

This requester pops up every time I double click on an mp4 video file. On each occasion, I select "VLC Media Player", which is under "Keep using this app". I also select the box that says "Always use this app to open .mp4 files". And then I click the Okay
button. That should tell Windows 10 that I always want to open mp4 files with VLC Media Player, but Windows 10 does not remember my choice. So this is a bug. Can Microsoft please fix this?

Note that I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 home 64 bit.

    Thanks.

Just a video icon in my N95 8GB Gallery

Yes. Your phone can play MP4 files. If the phone does not recognize the file format or the codec it will not display the picture, instead you will see a slash on the icon.

Welcome to the Forum 1 More Question. I do not seem to have that issue, but I use VSO Video player.

MP4's are handled by iTunes. If you don't need iTunes for a device, then you can use VLC (VideoLAN) which plays almost all formats.

MP4 is a format used a lot by Apple Products, their paid content is MP4 with a DRM in it, check if the MP4 is paid content, you can use iTunes to check. It will tell you if you need a license to play it.

The best solution for nearly any type of file is Videolan/VLC player
It's free and plays nearly any codec anyone has ever invented

    VLC media Player

Thanks for the replies ... Sorry for taking so long to respond.
    I should elaborate some ...
I like to take a lot of pictures and videos with my smartphone (android device).
When I plug my phone into my computer afterwards and try to view, this is when I encounter difficulties.
Sometimes the video will stream, other times the same clip will not stream and I get the message shown in my original post.
I tried VLC but that program doesn't seem to want to add files for viewing.
Never had the problem before using Windows 7.
