Windows 10: Windows 10 does not recognize anything that is plugged into the 3.5 audio jack.

As of today, I have noticed that my Windows 10 laptop has stopped recognizing any audio devices that use a 3.5 connection. I usually hear the generic "ding" sound every time I plug in my stereo system, followed by a notification asking what I plugged in. However, that is not the case anymore. Every time I plug a device into the 3.5 audio jack, my computer literally thinks nothing of it. In fact, my computer won't even display the "High Volume Can Cause Hearing Loss" warning. This strikes me odd considering that sound will still be played through whichever device I plug in (wired headphone, earbud, gaming headset, etc). Despite this, nothing shows up in the Playback Devices menu. This is a major issue considering how I frequently play games on this laptop. When I plug my gaming headset in, the microphone will not switch from the computer's built-in mic to my headset's mic, despite audio still being played through it.


I would REALLY appreciate some assistance with this issue. My laptop uses Realtek High Definition Audio if that helps.

Headphones Not Recognized as Plugged In

I installed the Conexant driver from the manufacturer's website and ran in compatibility mode for Windows 8. Still the same problem; headphone jack is not recognized at all.

Windows 10 HD audio driver still lists headphones as a playback device, but their status is always "not plugged in" even if they are plugged in.

This is a new laptop (just bought last month from the Microsoft store) and came preinstalled with Windows 10.

I would also like to add that the Realtek HD audio manager recognizes that something has been plugged into the headphone jack but does not output any sound in spite of that.
