  1. Windows 10 drive sharing

I have just set up a new PC with Windows 10 Home and I want to share a resource drive with other users on my home network, but it keeps refusing the connections.

I have gone to Sharing on the resource drive and the only option available is Advanced Sharing. I have set up file and printer sharing to not require a user account or password. In Advanced Sharing I've ticked "Share this folder" and under Permissions I've given full control to everyone. This is not my preferred setting, but I wanted to remove any obstacles and then tighten it up.

Even with this very generous share configuration, when I try to connect from another Windows 10 PC on the same physical ethernet network, I can see the folder for the drive but I get a "network error": "Windows cannot access [computer-name]\[share-name]" - "You do not have permission to access ... Contact your administrator to request access".

    What have I missed?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Permission issue, shared drive Windows 10.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We can understand your concern. However, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

    1. May I know the exact error message?
    2. Have you shared all hard drives or any particular folder within the particular hard drive?

Since you have mentioned that you are getting error related to permission issue, please refer to the troubleshooting steps provided by “Azee N” dated June 2nd 2010 on
Providing permission to drive and try
    providing permission to the drive.

If the issue still persists, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to re-map the drive.

    1. Disconnect the drive by right click on the drive and select disconnect (if the drive is mapped).
    2. Then re-map the drive by referring to Map a network drive
and check if it resolves the issue.

    Regards,
