    Windows 10 encrypted my files to filearmorencrypted file extension


    I have a usb key that gave me an error when I plugged it in. I got a Windows 10 pop up message asking if I wanted to repair the files and I clicked yes. After it was completed I was able to access my files on my usb, but some of the files were converted to a filearmorencrypted extension. Why did Windows decrypt some of the files and how do I go about decrypting them? Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the replying with the required information.

    As I understand that you are trying to decrypt the files encrypted on another device. The file encryption feature cannot be used on devices with Windows 10 home edition. It is only available for Windows 10 pro, Enterprise and Education. Refer the article
    on
    How to encrypt a file     for more information. If you still have access to the same device that you had used to encrypt the files, I suggest you to use the same device to decrypt the files. The files encrypted on one device
    can only be decrypted on that device itself you cannot use another machine to decrypt the files.

    Also refer the article on
    File Encryption     and check if that helps.
