Windows 10: Windows 10 Enterprise Edition Update from RS3 to RS4, service is not started (error 1068...

We have identified an issue upgrading Windows 10 Enterprise Edition from RS3 (1709) to RS4 (1803). After the update our Service is not started even though it is set to start Automatically. We know the application is intact because it can be started manually through the Services UI and performs as expected.



Supporting Data:

1. The System Event Log shows the sender is not Automatically started because it is dependent on LanmanWorkstation (Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start).
2. The Event Logs do not show any LanmanWorkstation events and when queried the LanmanWorkstation service is running.

My assumption is that LanmanWorkstation service is delayed starting (could be in recovery restart mode), but after it starts, the Update Service doesn't go back and start its dependent services. The only other service that is dependent on LanmanWorkstation is the Remote Desktop Configuration, but it’s a Manual start so we don’t see a similar failure.


I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

error 1068: Printer Spooler service not working/starting

Hi,

A workaround is to remove "http" from the list of Dependencies for Spooler.

(From Fix Spooler Service Error 1068)

From an elevated Command Prompt, type:

SC CONFIG SPOOLER DEPEND= RPCSS

There is a space after the equal-to sign. Spooler should start now.

But the other issue why http driver doesn't start, needs troubleshooting.

In the Admin command prompt window, type:

NET START HTTP

Post back the error. (It's probably code 31 again.)

 

Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start


I have an Samsung 850 EVO installed, it lets Windows do the optimization. In doing so the indexing service was disabled. But now I can't get the Streaming service to start. I get the 1068 error when trying to start it.

 

Windows 10 Update Orchestrator Service

found similar error in the 'System' log, during the restart after installing the update, is this normal for windows 10? Does everyone faced such thing? The update seems to have settled, in the status I've see 'Success', there seem to be no other errors.

The "Update Orchestrator Service" service is turned off due to an error
The return from the operation was due to the timeout.
