Windows 10 Enterprise - Windows Update Can't Find Update 1511

My computer is running Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows Update refuses to download and install the version 1511 update. I've tried to press "Search for updates" multiple times, but it still keeps telling me that it's updated. The last update (apart from Windows Defender updates) was KB3163017 which was installed 8 days ago. The installation of Windows 10 itself was made longer than one month ago so the 31 day protection shouldn't be an issue either.

I've tried to search for a solution, but all I could find included downloading the .ISO file and install it manually, which I'd like to avoid as I then must burn it on a disc and I'd prefer if Windows Update could just take care of it as it does with the other updates.

    So my questions are:

    • Is this normal, should Enterprise versions get these major updates via Windows Update or not?
    • Is there anyone here that also use the Enterprise version and have received the update via Windows Update?
    • Are there any solutions to this problem apart from updating with an .ISO?

    :)

  2. How to reinstall 1511 November update on Windows 10 Enterprise edition

I have Windows 10 Enterprise edition x64 version, I got the 1511 November update but I uninstalled it because I thought it was causing a video driver issue. Later, I solved the video driver issue and realized it had nothing to do with the 1511 November update.
Is there a way to reinstall that 1511 update? I cannot use the Media Creation Tool to update because this is an Enterprise edition.

  3. Upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1511 10586 "Fails"

I've got a genuine full / complete Windows 10 Enterprise (x64) MAK Key that I used to do an upgrade w/ a Portuguese Windows 10 Pro 1511 - but it only does the built-in updates & no upgrades to build 1607 - even after a 12 hours time lapse as I find this
somewhat strange which only seems to operate just like the Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB does - when the related Windows 10 Enterprise OS is not contained w/in the Windows Insiders 24 languages listings!

    Wureset Windows 10.zip - fails when beta-tested w/ Windows 10 Enterprise (x64) 1511 under any clean installs w/out any anti-virus software

    - so now how do we do these Windows 10 Enterprise (x64) 1511 upgrades done w/ other locales to the new Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 builds or even later as any clean new 1607 OS installs even when using any of our Windows Insiders accounts under beta-tests!

But when I do this w/ any of the two dozen listed Windows 10 Insiders Enterprise previous builds those Windows Updates do then give the new install.esd build files which can be easily converted to an OS ISO et cetera , but this is not so w/ any of the Windows
10 Enterprise 1511 localizations which are not listed w/in any of those 24 language editions of the Windows Insiders, even though that I've got two Windows 10 Enterprise tablets as I find this somewhat strange!

I don't think Enterprise upgrades to next major builds through Windows Updates. That is so the corporation using Enterprise can maintain control of the versions of software on their computers which is extremely important for compatibility reasons among others.

Why can't you just mount a downloaded ISO file and run setup.exe from the mounted ISO file? Why do you have to burn it to DVD first?

Does that work? I thought that Windows would need to restart etc which would also close down the mounting software?

There is no mounting software. Windows 10 mounts ISO natively. Windows 10 only needs the source files up until the first reboot. It doesn't need the source files after the first reboot during an install/upgrade.

So it seems that Enterprise users should have the option to get these major updates through Windows Update just like the Home and Professional versions do. Now I'm starting to wonder if there's anything wrong with my computer. Windows Update installed 3 defenition updates for Windows Defender today, but it still refuse to install version 1511.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Curious as to why are you running Enterprise? If it's a company supplied laptop, let the IT guy deal with it? If it's upgrading though the company WUS server, it won't upgrade unless the IT guy set it to upgrade. He or she decides when and where it happens.

I bought the computer from a company that closed down and I got the Enterprise version with it. So now I'm using it as my personal computer and therefore you could basically say that I'm the admin/"IT guy" now. That's why I'd like it to update automatically via Windows Update just as a Home or Professional version would do.

  10. Ok, just so you know, your not legally allowed to run that Enterprise version on your PC. It's licensed to them and they aren't allowed to resell Enterprise licensees. It should not have been sold to you with enterprise still installed on it. Activation will likely fail at some point. It will time out and if it can't connect to that companies activation server it won't reactivate. I'd run showkey, https://www.tenforums.com/software-ap...7-showkey.html and see if it has an OEM embedded key for Windows 8 or 8.1. If it does, that key can be used to install and activate the matching version of Windows 10. And then be legally activated.

And I would do that well in advance of July 29.

Thank you for the information. I used the Showkey program and the OEM field was empty. So the first thing I'm doing tomorrow is to contect them and either get my money back, or a copy of Windows that I'm allowed to use *Wink

  14. Is there a COA sticker on it anywhere? If it's a laptop, remove the battery and look in the compartment.
