Windows 10: Windows 10 explorer acting strange white bar search, need to force refresh for changes like...

So my file explorer in Windows 10 is acting strange. There's a white box covering the search bar. Covering, not that it's colored white, like I can't click into it. I notice that copying/pasting things won't take unless I hit F5 to refresh it. I tried running an integrity scan and restarting but neither have alleviated this issue.

Search Bar turned white on Windows 10 version 1709

For some reason my search bar went white. I googled this & seems other having issue also & tried this but works & goes back to grey till u type in search bar then goes white again.

1. Settings - Time & language - Region & language. Change your country to Gabon.
2. Sign out.
3. Sign back in. The Cortana search box will be gone as Cortana is not available in Gabon.
4. Go back into Settings and change your country back to the proper one. The Cortana search box will come back, but now it'll be black instead of white.
   
   This does not work on 1709.

 

Windows Explorer acting strangely..

Thanks for the thought.

Just this morning, right now, I saw it opened on 'quick access' (fortunately not hanging this time) even though I've tried to disable that so I had a sudden thought and went into the view stuff again and sure enough found right at the top a choice of where explorer should open: 'quick access' or 'this pc'.

So I have set it for 'this pc' and maybe that'll be the fix.





and while I was sticking that screenshot in this post I noticed explorer opened with this date grouping thing again, which I hate and I thought I had removed.... I'll try again...





wouldn't it be good if we could get up a sort of list, like a spreadsheet list maybe, listing down the column all the nonstandards features we've either chosen to implement or MS has stuck in there for us or third party software has put in.... with columns across the sheet detailing what it does and how/if it is necessary for this or that or nothing and enabling us to simply put a checkmark in a cell and have the feature disabled?

Maybe even a cell at the top we can check and have the whole sheet go back to basic default?

 

File Explorer acting Strange again (still)

Windows 10 may have encountered a corrupted system file that caused this issue. For us to help you with this, kindly answer the following questions:

• What is the current build and version of your Windows 10? To check type in
  winver on the search bar and press Enter.
• Is this also happening on another user account? Are you using an Administrator account?
• Have you made any recent changes to your computer prior to this issue?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you
boot your Windows 10 into safe mode and perform the following steps:

• Open Task Manager by right clicking the taskbar.
• Click More details at the bottom to expand the Task Manager window.
• Under the Processes tab, look for Windows Explorer.
• After selecting the Windows Explorer, click the Restart
  button at the bottom.
• It may take a few seconds and things like your taskbar and Start menu may disappear momentarily, but when it restarts, things should behave better and you can exit Task Manager.
