Windows 10: windows 10 explorer crashes continuously after start up

My laptop explorer keeps crashing every time i sign in to windows. It just shows my wallpaper and task bar alone. when i right click the sreen just blanks out and crashes bringing me back to the same screen, i cant bring up task mgr.plz help

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows explorer crashing

Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

Original title: Windows 10 continuously crashed

I recently upgraded to Windows 10. The windows explorer continuously crashes every 30sec to 1 minute, The entire desktop blacks out and resets like the explorer is restarting.

Windows update says all updates were applied. Imagine trying to work and it crashes all the time. I'm ready to go back to Windows 7, but not sure if I can without losing everything I just installed, like a new copy of Office from the internet.
