Windows 10: Windows 10 explorer.exe crashes and restarts every minute or so; in a loop

Came home from holidays and my Windows 10 machine seems to be crashing because explorer restarts every minute. The taskbar and desktop refreshes; any open windows are closed etc. Apps still run although app windows lose focus so its quite disruptive; never mind concerns of underlying issues. The Application Event View shows an Application Error Even ID 1000:Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 10.0.19041.2913, time stamp: 0x71fdc1b4Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.2788, time stamp:&nb

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
