Windows 10: Windows 10: Failing to boot up, reaches black screen with cursor

On my first time logging into Windows yesterday, I could tell there were issues with my PC. Google chrome uninstalled itself, discord failed to update after loading. Both programs failed to uninstall when attempted on ccleaner. I chose then to restart my computer massive mistake, loading normally until when I was supposed to see my account for the PC, I was greeted with a black screen and could only see my cursor move as i touched my mouse. I have restarted many different ways since, using every advanced option imagineable, took out my CMOS, even tried to full wipe my drive but it was unable to do so. I feel as though an update may have occured the night before, and has fried my computer.


If there’s a God out there, send someone to the comments with the answer to all my questions.

Windows 10 failing to boot into Windows (Black Screen).


I have a problem with my Windows 10 system. Previously I did the free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and everything worked fine for several months, until now, the system will not boot into windows and on boot up I am presented with a black screen and a flashing cursor (see pic).
I did carry out a recovery usb backup when the Windows 10 was installed, I have tried booting from the usb pen drive to attempt a recovery or fix, but both options have failed, unable to repair and cannot find recovery setup file.
Please could someone suggest another option that I can use to attempt to get the system running again?

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.

Windows 10 install stuck at black screen without cursor or anything


Hi my experience for what its worth. Initial (unattended) effort resulted in black screen with fixed cursor image - eventually pulled the plug as power off button unresponsive - reverted to Win 7 OK. Multiple re-tries interspersed with driver updates and hot fixes suggested in this thread and elsewhere - all failed with varying error codes.

Did a clean boot and then reinstall. All OK up to completion of the loading drivers stage, then black screen with fixed cursor again. Left it for an hour or so - no change. This time I managed to get the power button to work by holding in for some time., and on reboot the install continued to apply configuration settings and finally completed OK, Restored normal boot and all OK

It appears that the update reached a required re-boot, but failed to carry this out automatically and just sat there until it was performed manually.
