Windows 10: Windows 10 failing to update from the 1703 version. What can I do?

Windows 10 just doesn't seem to update from the 1703 version to a newer one. It started about a month ago; the update would start normally, but it'd eventually fail after reaching a certain percentage of completion. It'd then reboot back to the previous version. But then one day I went away from my computer for about an hour and once I came back there was a blue screen displayed on my monitor saying that "Windows 10 needs to be repaired." I spent about 4 hours trying to fix it with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, and the only way I managed to get it to boot back to Windows was by selecting "Use another operating system" and selecting the third option. So, my question is; how would I be able to update to a newer version of Windows without having to completely reinstall the whole operating system?


I am also providing you with the processor and graphics card which I use.


CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1300X Quad-Core Processor
GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Dear Saurabh,

The update will fail in number of Scenarios:

• If the system is not compatible for the update.
• If the update is not required onto the system.
• If the update is already installed and the windows update has discovered a similar version i.e a copy of the same.

Hence if it is not getting installed there is no need to worry

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
