  1. Windows 10 fails to show an installed .pdf reader, preventing it from being selected as default

I recently installed a PDF file reader, however I cannot choose it as the default app.The pdf file reader is one of the apps listed in Wikipedia's page of pdf readers. So it's hardly a a rarity!I want to use the recently installed application to open .pdf files by default, but it does not show in the application list provided by Win 10 as options. Furthermore, when I try "Choose default apps by file type", there is no option to select this app on my computer - it does not appear in the list of pdf-relevant apps. That rules out "first select file type, then choose app", also rules out "first

  2. Adobe Acrobat Reader (AAR) prevented as Default PDF file Opener

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Since when are you facing this issue?

I suggest you to set default applications by file type from Windows settings. Follow the steps mentioned below:-

    1. Tap on Windows + I on the keyboard.

    2. Click on Apps.

    3. Select Default apps option.

    4. Select Choose
    default app by file type.

    5. Next to .pdf choose a default application as
    Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

If the issue still persists try to Set Acrobat or Reader as the default PDF owner. Refer the following link steps to

set Acrobat or reader as the default PDF owner

    Hope it helps.

  4. Windows 10 fails to show an installed .pdf reader, preventing it from being selected as default

select default pdf reader in W10M

I know MS wants everybody to use Edge as their default pdf reader, but it's simply missing a lot of features other readers have. I have to read/ watch quite some pdf's on my phone. A small selection of annoyances in Edge:

    • loading time is bad on Edge
    • renders very very slowly
    • restricted zoom, unusable if you have to zoom in on a A0 size document
    • multiple clicks for switching to other documents
    • full-screen is missing (there is always the, in this case, useless adress bar on screen)
    • rotation of document is missing
    • always need to download an email attachment first before opening it in a usable app
    • why ditch basic functionality in the first place?
    • it's a bloody browser, not a very good one on my phone, but I could live with it.
Does someone know of an advanced setting in W10M so I am able to choose a default app for pdf? Xodo is one of the best pdf readers on Windows Mobile, in contrast to Edge.

For me it's not a small feature, so if MS keeps on crippling my workflow, I have to look for other options. I'm not for looking for fancy apps, but just basic functionality.

I am using a lumia 950 if that matters (and not very happy with it since Creator's Update).
