  1. Windows 10 fails to utilize allocated paging space for virtual memory

    Hi there,

I have recently bought a new laptop, with 16 GB of RAM and an SSD as a disc labeled "C" for windows. Later I added another disk, HDD this time, and set up my system to use the least allowed amount of C my SSD system disc for pagefile.sys and to use standard recommended space on the other disc HDD data disc for pagefile.sys.
I was not able to entirely disable paging file on C, because when I did it, my PC started BSoDing every now and then and after reboot, it was warning me that temporary pagefile was created on C anyway and there was an error with pagefile.sys.
Now, that I allowed 16MB for pagefile.sys on C, it does not warn me, but my applications keep running out of RAM.

Does anyone know why cannot I disable pagefile.sys on C and why my system fails to utilize pagefile.sys on my other disc?

The internet is flooded with useless tips on how to adjust allocated pagefile.sys size so I could not find any viable solution to my problem.

    Sincerely,
just a regular, everyday, normal Adam Bajger

    :)

    Virtual Memory

You should *not* turn off virtual memory. Two points:

    1. If you don't have a page file, you can't use all the RAM you have. That's because Windows preallocates virtual memory in anticipation of a possible need for it, even though that allocated virtual memory may never be used. Without a page file,
that allocation has to be made in real memory, thus tying up that memory and preventing it from being used for any purpose.

    2. There is never a benefit in not having a page file. If it isn't needed, it won't be used. Don't confuse allocated memory with used memory.

Windows 10 fails to utilize allocated paging space for virtual memory

    Virtual Memory

"704 GB of virtual memory adequate "

    - Typo, yes ? If not... Waaaay too much space allocated for the Page File.

If you have used a 'performance enhancing' software (or file tweak), that has an option to 'clear the Page File at shut down' .

having this option enabled will slow shut down, but not booting into Windows.

    - As suggested by Sher, System Managed should be fine. If you want to use a fixed amount try 6GB (6144) for both min and max.

    - Have you run Disk Cleanup and defragmented your HDD recently ?
