Windows 10: Windows 10 failure to update cumulative updates January 2021

Already more than 2 weeks since I tried applying the cumulative up-date January 2021 to my PC, which runs on system version 10.0.19041 Build 19041, to no avail.

Different trouble-shooting information I found on internet for people having experienced similar problem, mostly these go back to other updates, have not been helpful. I have, however, not resorted to examples of 'restore' or similar risky, for a lay person as me, procedures and I would like to avoid them.

The error message in the system panel for Windows Updates reads "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: 0x8007007e" .

Therefore I decided to follow the suggestion 'contact support', which as it turns out is not as straightforward, which makes me finally land here in the hope that somebody in a similar position has been able to solve the problem, thanks.

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) will not install

Anyone else having problems getting the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) installed? This update has been failing for me & doing a failed to update after downloading & reboot, then rebooting & removing the update.

• CVE-2020-0689 has been re-released. For further information see Security update for Secure Boot DBX: January 12, 2021.
• For information regarding enabling Windows 10, version 1909 features, please see Windows 10, version 1909 delivery options. Note that Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 share a common core operating system with an identical set of system files. They will also share the same security update KBs.
• Windows 10 updates are cumulative. The monthly security release includes all security fixes for vulnerabilities that affect Windows 10, in addition to non-security updates. The updates are available via the Microsoft Update Catalog.
