    Windows 10 Failure

Windows 10 free upgrade - is it as good as claimed?? I up-graded in September 2015, excellent, no problems very good OS. Until December, following a MS up-grade to Win10 my browser took 10 min to load then I found other issues - could not delete any programs, could not do a system restore, could not open any down-loaded MS fixes - the list goes on and on. After talking with MS today I was told the the Win 10 up-grade was not compatible with my PC so would need to do a complete reinstall of Win7, thanks MS for a not so great (yet) OS. Am I alone or have others had the same issue???

    :)

    Errors: "0x8024200d", "0xc1420127", "0x80131501" while installing Windows 10 Pro, version 1511.

Automatic update tried to update Windows 10 so many times with different error codes as below

"Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200d: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586.'

"Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0xc1420127: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586."

"Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200d: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586."

and so on and so on on on more attempts.

    The latest error is

"Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80131501: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586."

I have tried researching all the internet responses to this problem but no solution works.

I am really frustrated now and would appreciate some HELP.

  3. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so i figured it out myself

    Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

    Cheers

  4. Windows 10 Failure

If you initially upgraded to Windows 10 in September and had no problems with it, that would indicate some sort of other software change that impacted your Windows installation further down the line.

In my opinion the upgrade WAS a bit ropey anyway, and I'd always recommend installing Windows 10 fresh anyway to get the best out of it (and to avoid software issues).

I thought there may have been software added - that's how I found out I could not delete any programs. How do you do a 'clean install' if doing a MS web up-grade? The MS answer of a compatibility issue from their last up-date to either my PC or other loaded software seemed to be a good answer, though not helpful as a complete rebuild is necessary!

  6. I ran the in-place upgrade to ensure Windows 10 would be activated correctly, then I created a Windows 10 installation USB, and did booted from the USB stick in order to run the installation. I then did a custom installation, deleted the old Windows installation (deleted all the partitions) and started fresh *Smile

    Windows 10 Failure

MS told you that 10 was incompatible with your PC? Was that literally true, or did they say that the PC manufacturer (HP?) doesn't support the upgrade? (There's a world of difference between the two statements.)

As I wrote in another post,
I have had numerous problems with my HP Pavilion after upgrading from 7. You name it I encountered it. Finally figured it out !!
Uninstall HP support assistant , HP framework, HP setup(this one is important), HP quick launch (if you don't have it) and HP on screen display from the programs setup'
These HP programs are unnecessary and without a doubt cause problems, especially coming from Win 7, because they were configured for the previous OS. When you need to install drivers you can go to all the individual vendors and download them manually. This is good practice anyway.

After uninstalling all the HP crap, my system runs like a top. Actually better than the previous OS. Win 10 after it is tweaked is an awesome OS.

I have been reading up on the various issues with Win-10 and it seems as if I have seen HP Support Assistant mentioned a few times as being an issue. I did have it myself, and I did not really notice any issues except for 1-2 additional running services, so I uninstalled it for that reason alone. However, after reading about others having problems, I'm glad that I did.

Guess it does not screw up all Windows 10 installations, as I still have the HP programs installed on my computer. I have not seen them affect anything on my Windows.
