Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 - Sound HDMI issue

After updating to 1709 the sound to my AV reciever cuts off randomly all the time. Its connected with HMDI from my gpu (nvidia 980ti), and I've never had this problem. I've tried deleting drivers, updating them. I did a roll back to 1703 and everything was workig fine. Its using the regular windows driver. (High definition driver)

After that I did a manual update to 1709 again and tried both the default windows driver and nvidia sound driver, and both drivers work according to windows, but I still have the same issue with the sound coming on for a second and then goes away. I might add that the sound works perfecly with both windows driver and nvidia driver in 1703. And that in both cases I used the newest nvidia driver and I used driver uninstaller before installing it.

Any suggestions or someone with similar isse? It's so anoying since most of the time I use my desktop on my TV with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

    :)

Thanks for replying so soon, Matt. It sounds as though the Fall Creator's Update might be the cause. Maybe a lot of us should get together and urge a solution to the problem. Running a system file check and re-installing Windows didn't do any good, so far.

Unless you have a major pressing issue to update to the Fall CU - roll back and stay back for a while.

These updates have bugs that can take some time to fix. You are not missing out on any 'big things' sticking to the previous build.

Yes, I know, but I like to be on the newest build. And it would be fun to know whats causing this, and to find a solution. *Smile

But yeah, I rolled back for now.

Also having this problem. Tried reinstalling drivers, including a completely clean Nvidia driver install, and I've also contacted Microsoft and Nvidia support, who seem stumped, though they say they are looking into it. *Huh

It's getting ridiculous at this point. Going on six weeks of being on 1703. If anyone's also had this problem, have you found a solution?

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 - Sound HDMI issue

I now find myself in the same boat, just completed the Win 10 1709 update and the sound connection to my TV breaks up intermittently. Using an Asus 1050ti card and a HDMI cable to send signal to my flat-screen TV. The sound cuts in and out randomly if coming threw the HDMI cable, if i send the sound out threw my PC speakers and and turn off the HDMI sound their is no problem.
This problem starred the day after i upgraded to 1709, i tried reinstalling all the video and sound drivers, (no change) i tried using a different video player, (no change). this will have to be fixed by either Microsoft or Nvidia, how do i let them know it is a problem?

    Windows 10 home(64 bit) v 1709 OS build 16299.125

    Gtx 950

    Nvidia driver 388

    Nvidia High Definition Audio 1.3.35.1

HDMI output is working fine for me with the above driver versions.
Which nvidia audio driver are you using?

I contacted nvidia, with no luck. But after trying everything for 3-4 hours I finally found out what was wrong! *Smile

So basicly 1709 forces a higher color depth then my/our HDMI cable is capable off. (to much information is being sent) It does this without telling us, or letting us change it. I manageed to figure this out after realizing that I got sound if I turned my hertz down to 30, or lowered my resolution. So there is two solutions:

    1. Buy a HDMI cable that is at least verion 1.4, preferably 2.0.

    2. Go into nvidia controlpanel > Change resolution > Scroll down > Select > Use nvidia colorsettings > Change from 12 bpc to 8 bpc. THATS IT!

Hopefully this helps others, since neither NVIDIA or Microsoft seems to be able to figure it out.
