And I am one who is waiting for CU to be offered to me. I have been offered, and accepted the update on 4 other computers. No problems. But I have one computer that is waiting for the update and has not received it yet. So, I guess it is going to become like Windows XP soon. No updates, no offers, no anything. Thank you, Microsoft, for your screw-up.

 

This is good news. I will likely grap the ISO prior to that date and do a clean install like last time.

 

I am frustrated , I am going to wait some more but it's taking far too long to be rolled out. That's why I hope one can go from anniversary to fall creators in one swoop when and if windows update gets round to offering it

At that date they might force an update, or maybe not. Perhaps this upcoming update they should push out all at once and break everyones machine so that people don't have to worry about being left behind.

This new version of Windows every 6 months is beyond stupid anyways, no reason why they couldn't roll out feature updates through patches instead of forcing upgrades.

 

Scotty. Honest question. Is there something you believe will go wrong if you simply do it yourself? Upgrade to Creators 15063? There's nothing I know of, other than a hardware restriction, that would prevent you from doing so. I don't believe hardware could be an issue from a compatibility point of view stopping it being offered. The pc is skylake cpu, SSD, nvidia 980 ti. It's a custom built pc from U.K. company pc specialist so not branded. Maybe that's why it's going to be one of the last ones. But the honest answer is I think windows update should be doing its job and pushing it. I think the drip fed rollout is taking far too long. I think people should expect windows update to do the work for them. Admittedly I do have a bee in my bonnet about it. If MS could only be clear on the roll out. Is it finished? If it's not come by now, will it ever? I will probably buckle eventually if it doesn't come on windows update though. But am determined to wait some more. I think roll out is still happening though as some people on another thread got creators offered today so it seems still ongoing.

i do agree with oilernut quite a bit. Why can't features add through cumulative updates. These feature updates every six months seem over the top. I thought Apple were bad enough releasing a new iOS every year.

version 1710 it is then. When Insiders will get this build is unknown. Skippy will be available until the beginning of October at least - another month of development/testing

 

I think we'll find it's going to be 1709. The build will likely be finalized some weeks before release. After all, the Creators Update was launched on 11th April but that was still called 1703.

 

On a quite recent laptop, 1703 was only pushed out in the last 2 or 3 weeks, so it makes sense that custom builds might be later. I also have a much older laptop where I tried clean installing 1703 without waiting, but an incompatibility with old hardware caused lots of problems (since fixed I believe).

If you want to do a manual update, my recommendation would be to make sure you do a system image backup with Macrium or similar beforehand (and make sure the recovery media will boot) before trying the update.

 

Thank you so much for that info. I think it's the uncertainty and lack of clarity from MS that's frustrating me most. I want to know why the creators isn't being pushed through the main method of windows update. At the moment a user has no idea if they've reached the end of the road with the feature updates or not. It seems from what you say then that roll out is still ongoing and the custom builds despite modern - ish hardware are right at the back of the queue.

 

I kind of recall on the last update (i call it upgrade since it is a new version of windows 10) didn't they release it on iso about a week or so before the general release to the windows updater? (which was done in "waves")...I am running the stable version (not insiders program) and recall using the media creation tool to get the iso and have it do my upgrade before the actual release date...

Hope they do that this time as well...I sort of recall they (microsoft) had a post that said something like "Would you like to get it early" which led you to the link to the creation tool...I didn't do a clean install, i just told it to upgrade me with all apps and data in place and it went very smoothly...*Smile

 

Yes, the Update Assistant and the Media Creation Tool were both updated to deliver the Creators Update on 5th April ahead of the 11th April launch date and I upgraded to 1703 on 6th April.
