Windows 10: Windows 10 - File Explorer - search tools - results are incorrect

Using windows 10.

Open file explorer.

Go to a folder.

Click search bar, enter "typept", hit search.

No items match your search.

I can see multiple powerpoint files in the folder. Why do none show up in search results? 7 did not have this problem.

Same goes for searching by size and date modified. In 7's file explorer I could just type and get results.


Have also used: .ppt, .pptx, pptx, powerpoint.

Have tried the 'Current folder' and 'All subfolders' options.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows 10 File Explorer search tool not working

I have tried all the above steps but I am unable to find and search a file with email address as search key.

I suggest you to run the Search and indexing troubleshooter and check. Follow the steps provided below.

• Press Windows logo key + X Key.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Double Click on Troubleshooting.
• Click on View all option, on left hand side of the window.
• Click on Search and indexing and follow the on screen instructions.
