  1. Windows 10 FIPS error - Applications not working - Version 18362.959

I work as an IT Engineer for a construction company and use Datto RMM to push jobs to target computers, starting on Thursday, August 20th the jobs started to fail, giving me the error message "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation." I searched the log of the Datto RMM on the target computer and found the message:

ExecuteInterval UIBrandManager System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.
    at System.Security.Cryptography.MD5CryptoServiceProvider..ctor

Based on my research I found that this is usually caused by a local security policy having FIPS enabled and having the registry entry for FIPS set to '1', I've checked this on each machine that I'm having this problem on and each on has FIPS set to disabled and the registry entry set to '0'. I did try running a job on a computer running an older patch of Windows 10 version 19041.329 and on a Server running Server 2008 and each job ran successfully. Which leads me to believe that this is being caused by a recent Windows security patch.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what to try? I've also run into problems with running Dell Command Update and running client-side applications of Greenlight Compliance Software that produce the same error code.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Windows 10 FIPS error - Applications not working - Version 18362.959

On start up in Windows 10 receive an ERROR: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithims

The pop-up message in full is:

Unable to connect to the Internet

You must adjust your local security cryptography settings to allow this application to connect to the internet. Please follow the steps by clicking the link below.

ERROR: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.

Learn how to Turn Off FIPS Compliance Checking

So read the information on how to turn off FIPS or disable the FIPS Compliance Checking. I did that and still get the pop-up message. I'm not sure which program is causing the error and error message doesn't lead to the application.

I am able to connect to the internet in every application I used so far on this new upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The only issue I have found so far is in Quicken, Quicken isn't able to connect to all my financial institutions. It only connects
to 3 out of about 12 banks and financial companies. The error there is Quicken is unable to connect to the financial institutions.

Anyone having similar issues or had, if so, did you get a fix for it?

    UPDATE:

Found out the message was related to Driver Boost Pro software. It appears that Windows 10 is not giving it access to the internet to do it's driver check and update. I check Windows F&Qs and they point you to a firewall issue. Well in my case I am using
Norton 360 and it manages the firewall and not Windows. I couldn't any issue with Norton 360 as it works on my other laptop running Windows 7.

Still not know how to fix this issue.
