Windows 10: fixing ms-settings protocol issue

    Symptoms:

    - right click desktop, select "display settings"

    OR

    - right click windows task bar, select "taskbar settings"

    OR

    - Win+R, then type "ms-settings:"

--> you get an error message, or another fancy behaviour instead of the correct Windows settings window.

  2. Can't opens the start button on Windows 10. Troubleshooter reports "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer

    Hi Glenn,

Thank you for bringing up your query on Microsoft Community.

I realize this may be frustrating. Now that you have me with you, let me take care of this.

    • What build is installed on the computer?
This issue could have been caused if the Windows is not up to date.

As an initial step, I suggest you to check and Install if there are updates pending.

Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or enhance your computing experience.

    Step 1:

    • Press Windows logo + R keys, enter
ms-settings: and then press OK. This opens Settings.

    • In Settings, go to Update & security >
Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC if required.

    Step 2:

You may refer to the steps suggested by ZigZag3143 (Windows IT Pro

  3. New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update problems and complaints
    • Installation problems with the Fall Creators Update
    • Microsoft Edge problems with the Fall Creators Update
    • Drivers problems with the Fall Creators Update
    • Experience problems with the Fall Creators Update

    AMD FX OC'ers Club

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
