Windows 10: Windows 10 Free Update Partition

    I have seen the link below and I don't see any sign of windows 10 asking to download on a partition

    How do I update my Recovery Partition to Windows 10?

    I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 with the free Windows 10 update. If at some point I have hardware or software problems, I may have to go back to 8.1 using the current recovery partition. Then to return to Windows 10 would require another update which
    probably won't be free by then (and be kind of a hassle installing), so how do I update the recovery partition to 10 to avoid a lot of trouble?

    Windows 10 Free Update Partition

    You have to make an installation USB or DVD with the Media Creation Tool. Then you have to boot the computer from the USB or DVD created and under custom install options you can pick which partition to install Windows 10 to. HOWEVER - if you have never upgraded an existing Windows 7/8/8.1 to Windows 10 on that computer, a new install to a new partition will not activate. Installing Windows 10 to a new partition is not an upgrade - it is a new clean install.
