Windows 10: Windows 10 freeze, BSOD, flickering cursor, defender won't open

Hi


A few days ago, my Windows10 PC started freezing rught before the login window. I had to manually shutdown and restart to get to the login window. After this, i saw BSOD a couple of times and now windows defender is not opening. Upon clicking it tge cursor just flickers. I have tried the solutions posted on tge community for each of these problems but the flicker problem persists. Please help!

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Run Windows app troubleshooter.

Step 2: Run shell commands for Windows store and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X and select
  Command prompt(Admin) to open elevated Command prompt.
  
• 
  Type the following commands.
  
  
  
  powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml
  
• 
  Hit enter, the blackscreen will appear still for a couple of seconds. After a couple of second a new line saying C:\.... will appear.
  
• 
  Close Command Prompt.
  
• 
  Try to start the Windows Store again.

I cannot open Windows Defender Security Center -- I get a flickering wheel by my mouse cursor when I try.

Hi, I have a new (to me) Dell 7040 Optiplex SFF running Windows 10 Home.

I very recently reinstalled the operating system (twice). However, I am still getting "freezes" across different applications. Applications regularly freeze for about 15-25 seconds.



I had ResMon running and saw that MsMpEng.exe is continually writing a constant amount to my SSD. About 450,000 B/sec. This is Windows Defender.

I want to see what happens if I turn it off for a spell. However, I am unable to do this.

I can go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security.

But when I try clicking on "open Windows Defender Security Center", nothing opens at all.


HOWEVER, my mouse cursor gets a Blue Wheel that flickers on and off rapidly. It is basically blinking. This effect persists until I restart my computer.



What is going on? Any ideas or suggestions?
