    Windows 10 freezes at random


    Hello everyone Windows 10 freezes at random :)

    I have built a new PC a couple of weeks ago and I'm experiencing following problem when using Windows 10 (and only Windows - I have a parallel Linux installation which works flawlessly).

    Every once in a while, seemingly at random (can happen 3 times in an hour or once in multiple hours) my computer freezes requiring a hard reset to get back to life. I noticed it when playing some games (like Kingdom Comes Deliverance), but also when browsing web on Chrome (even with one, empty card open).

    If it happens while I see my mouse cursor, I can move it around for a couple of seconds, however the moment I click on anything, or press any button on my keyboard, it goes completely unresponsive.

    I have following specs:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (not OC)

    Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WI-FI)

    BIOS: 1004 (newest)

    RAM: Corsair CMK16GX4M2D3600C18 DDR4-2133 / PC4-17000 DDR4 SDRAM UDIMM (2x8GB running at 3600mhz)

    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (with newest game ready driver)

    System drive: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 250GB

    System: Windows 10 Pro 20H2 build 19042.572


    I ran an OCCT test with no errors detected and a RAM test with Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool - also no problems found.

    Can anyone suggest how I can diagnose and fix the problem?

    • Sign in using an administrator account in your Windows 10 computer.
    • Disable or uninstall any anti-virus that you've installed to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade to Windows 10.
    • Reinstall Windows 10.

    Hrrmmmm... but wouldnt formatting and reinstalling windows fix the issue since the virus/trojan/spyware isnt on the system any longer?

    Random freezes or shut downs

    Completely random freezing/shutdowns on a system with no recent hardware changes, and hard drive, memory, and PSU fine, usually means a software issue (file corruption or malicious software). I suggest following DavidV's recommendations.
