Windows 10: Windows 10 freezes, but remains partially working.

Hi all. I have a 4790K/1660ti/32ram. It will freeze randomly 5 minutes-several hours after boot. I have had cooling problems lately, but this is happening 30-50 degrees celsius when it is fairly idle.


It will freeze, but not really. The mouse still works, the start menu works fine, some programs will try to open but usually just open to a white window. This doesnt happen slowly, it happens instantly. The task manager clock freezes permanently as do all task manager graphs/%/etc. Everything stops, except for above mentioned functions. No virus’s or malware have been found. I haven’t tried reinstalling windows yet.


I have ordered a 10th Gen CPU, motherboard, RAM, themal paste/cooling, etc. I was thinking of upgrading anyway before this started happening, but this push me over the edge. But I am not convinced that this is a hardware problem.

Windows 10 Partial Freeze

To assist you better, I would like to know whether you had installed any third party security application.

This issue may arise due to the following reasons:

1. Driver conflicts or get outdated.

2. Malware attacks.

3. Multiple programs running at a same time.

4. Application conflicts.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to download and install any pending updates that needs to be installed on the computer through Windows update and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to run
System Maintenance troubleshooter finds and clean up unused files and shortcuts and performs maintenance tasks.

• • Press Windows key and type Troubleshooting.
  • Select Troubleshooting and hit Enter.
  • Click on View all in the left pane of the window.
  • Select System Maintenance.

Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
