Windows 10: Windows 10 freezes every time when unplugged power from laptop.

Dear Sir,


My Windows 10 freezes every time when unplugged power from laptop. It does not happen to Windows 8 but only 10. It is a fresh install windows too. Just wondering if you can provide me with any advice to fix this problem. As mentioned, I can run Win 8 without power supply with no problem at all. But yeah, once I plugged in power, everything works well.


My Laptop is:

Core i5 4210

16GB RAM

500 GB SSD

GTX860M

• What exactly happens when you try to unplug the device from the ports of your laptop?
• Were you able to see any error code/ error message with this issue?

This issue could be either due to some issues with the power settings or corrupted system files on the computer. Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps you to resolve this issue.

Method 1: Run the Performance troubleshooter.

Performance troubleshooter finds and clean up unused files and shortcuts and performs maintenance tasks.

• Press Windows key and type Troubleshooting.
• Select Troubleshooting and hit Enter.
• Click on View all in the left pane of the window.
• Select System Maintenance.
• Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Method 2: Run the Power Troubleshooter

Power troubleshooterfind and fix problems with your computer's power settings to conserve power and extent battery life

  Type Troubleshooting in the
  Search bar on the desktop and press Enter.

  In the Troubleshooting window, click on
  View All on the left pane.

Method 3: I suggest you to restore the power plans to default,
create a new plan and check if it helps.

Step 1: Reset and restore the power plans to default:

• Right-click on Start button
  and click on Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the command prompt, type powercfg –restoredefaultschemes
  and hit Enter.
• Exit command prompt.

Note: This would reset the power plan settings to default. Any customized power plans are would be removed.

Step 2: Once the power plan is reset to default, you may create a
new power plan and customize the same according to your needs.

Windows 10 freezes when close laptop or unplug anything such as power cord.

Computer freezing a lot ever since I upgraded to 10, having this issues when I unplug anything usb powered such as a mouse or power cord or when I close my laptop. Also freezing from normal use randomly. PLEASE HELP

So I tried out the suggestion of Clean Boot and like Safe Mode the issue did not reoccur. I used the Windows 8 link that was posted and followed the same instructions for Windows 10. The question then becomes which files or set of files or programs need
to be disabled for the Windows 10 in regular boot mode so that Windows 10 does not to freeze when the power adapter is disconnected. After playing around with it for a while somehow I ended up inadvertently disabling internet and sound. Unable to fix it I
decided I wanted to revert back to Windows 7 Home Premium using System Restore and then reinstall Windows 10.

So I reinstalled Windows 10 and this time the all the device drivers were found and all looks good in Device Manager (no exclamation marks). There is not other software on the computer at this time. Windows 10 freezing issue was replicated when the power
adapter is disconnected. Again it does not occur in safe mode or clean boot mode. Can you advise on guesstimating which files groups related to power should I be looking for to disable as there are dozens of files that appear in regular boot mode that do not
appear safe mode or clean boot?

Another line of thinking is that regular boot-up also freezes if the power adapter is disconnected during boot-up. Could this simply be a power issue? The laptop battery is almost brand new and ran Windows 7 ran as smoothly as possible. In Windows 10 I have
also tried multiple power adapters. Does Windows 10 had very specific power requirements?
