Windows 10: Windows 10 freezes when entering sleep mode

Whenever my PC tries to enter sleep mode, the screen goes dark and the PC freezes. It never actually gets to sleep mode and the battery quickly drains if not plugged in. The only way out of this state is a hard reboot by holding the power button for several seconds. This happened a couple years ago and I found a post advising to disable fast startup (or was it fast reboot? I cant remember exactly) which resolved my problem. Now, with the last update that Windows shoved down my throat the problem is back. I already tried the easy/obvious: disabling fast startup, enabling and disabling again. Problem persists.

I think this is not an uncommon problem, so if you have fixed it or know how, I would appreciate your advice. Thanks

system freezes up in sleep mode

system freezes up in sleep mode, one monitor on and the other a sleep. Can not wake up system without hard reboot. Any suggestions?
