Windows 10: Windows 10 freezing randomly

So far the issue only happened 3 times. The first 2 times it was during Skype calls with a friend, so I first thought the issues was related to Skype. I was not on Skype calls (just text chat) since then, but the issue occured again yesterday.


The way it goes is as follows:

Suddenly I can not click on anything, or type anything, but I can still move the cursor. Then after a while I am not able to move the cursor either. Curiously during the 2 times when I was in a Skype call the call did not get interrupted. I was able to still talk with my friend no problems (though I did not try to do this prolonged while Windows was frozen).

The only way to restart the PC was to use the reset or power switches.


This is quite annoying since I use my PC to work a lot, and losing work, even if it is just half and hour or so, would be quite unfortunate.

OS is Win 10 Pro N 64bit, version 1803, Build 17134.523.

I have already ran basic chkdsk scans on all my drives and nothing came back in those.
The machine is quite new (I assembled it March last year) and I don't think there is an issue with the cooling either, generally the system runs under 40C unless I am doing very processor or GPU intensive work/gaming.

Any clues as to what might be the issue would be greatly appreciated.

I had already tried turning off fast startup, to no avail.
Will look at the list you provided, thanks. Hard to do when computer freezes on the Windows loading screen though. *Biggrin

• Look for the computer model that you're using.
• You should find any available BIOS update.
