    Windows 10 frustration

I started my computer today and the computer was starting up and a light blue screen popped up titled "Choose an option"
Continue-Exit and continue to windows 10
    Use another operating system
    Troubleshoot
    Turn off PC

The only problem is when I get to this screen I have no keyboard or mouse control or even a mouse cursor on the screen and my only option is to turn the PC off from the power button on the computer tower. I am decent with computers but this has me stumped. I need some help badly as this is the only computer in the house.

    :)

  2. Missing Operating System after Windows 10 download

Is there anywhere to download replacement OS for Windows 7 Home Premium? Mine crashed on Windows 10 upgrade.

  3. Frustration with Windows 10

A retail Windows 7 license is entitled to migrate anywhere the user wants it. Only if it is presently qualifying for Upgrade can it not be used at all. If the Upgrade is uninstalled (by deleting its partition) then the Windows 7 license is again free
to migrate until it is again used to qualify for Upgrade.

More than likely you are using a wireless keyboard and mouse, and this is not being recognized in this pre-boot environment. You might try checking your bios for an entry related to usb keyboard options.

I am using a wireless keyboard but my mouse is wired. I looked in the BIOS but I don't see anything I want my Windows 7 back.

It has nothing to do with needing to go back to Windows. Make sure the bios is set for USB legacy and that if there is a feature in the bios to not check for keyboard and mouse, change the setting.

The Post cannot find the keyboard, so it is failing. That is why you need to state hardware you are using as in what manufacturer and model of keyboard. Some have problems connecting, especially if they are Bluetooth, because Windows 10 does not even start the Bluetooth service until it gets to where it starts loading Network connection right as the Login Window is loading. There are also some wireless USB keyboards that do not work properly until the OS is past the Login screen, because the service does not enable until you get logged in.

Get a USB keyboard and go in and run sfc /scannow and see if it finds any issues and repairs them.

What I was trying to say is that when I had Windows 7 I had no issues at all ever since using windows 10 it has been problem after problem. As far as setting the keyboard in the BIOS I went in and saw no options to set the keyboard or mouse and since I don't have a USB keyboard now I have to go buy one and hope this solves my problem. It's funny how the Microsoft wireless keyboard won't work with their own operating system.

Again this problem has nothing to do with Windows 7, so there is no need to mention it. Windows 7 had issues also with Wireless Keyboards, just like XP, Vista and 8.1. Your problem is because as I stated in where the service starts for the dongle or Bluetooth service if it connects via Bluetooth.

You have to open up Command as an administrator and run sfc /scannow to fix. Also make sure the Bios is set for the two items I pointed out.

Yes Microsoft has some legacy products that if they are EOL, they will no longer work. It has nothing to do with the Operating System. A lot of that has to do with the encryption scheme that was found flawed in the keyboard firmware. You find a lot of user items that Microsoft marketed that did not even last six months to two years. Look at the Band and Lumina. They barely got 2 years old before they pulled them off of the market.

I have a $30 Logitech Keyboard and Mouse that uses their standard USB Dongle. I use it with my test setup downstairs all of the time, along with a couple of Media Boxes and our Samsung Smart TV. Never had an issue with it, same as the MX mouse that I use for my Macbook Air.

I stopped buying Microsoft labeled products after they stopped supporting the USB Biometric units.

You misunderstand. It's not the OS that it's not working with. The OS hasn't even been loaded yet. At this point it's still the BIOS/Firmware controlling things.

The situation is different. For some reason, you seem to have two instances of Windows loaded if it's asking you to make a selection. That wasn't the case when you had Windows 7. Had you loaded two different versions of Windows 7, you would have seen the same option and likely had the same problem.

If you could take a picture with your phone or something and upload it, it would definitely help us identify the problem.

A lot of this weird stuff started happening after the last update came out a week or two ago, right before Microsoft made their announcement.

Well I bought a new keyboard and it works fine in the BIOS and when I select to load windows 10 then I am back to the same blue choice screen with no keyboard and mouse control not even a mouse cursor on the screen.

@p3arljam, are your mouse and keyboard plugged into black (USB 2.0) or blue (USB 3.0) ports? They should be plugged into black (USB 2.0) ports. And you are correct, this is a Windows problem, not a UEFI/BIOS problem.

That is a dual boot screen shot or a botched attempt at a dual boot screen shot.

No update I have done, or Shawn has done or many others have done has resulted in that situation.

Respectfully, no it is not. It is the Windows Recovery Environment screen. Hold down the shift key and click restart and you will get the exact same screen. There is something wrong with the Windows 10 installation that is causing it to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment.
