    Windows 10 GPU Issue

    Greetings.

I'm currently running Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2010). I'm facing a very severe issue in Windows, and I'm just done. I can't do it. I need help.

Every time I try to do something even remotely heavy in Windows 10, my display turns black and returns, only for me to see that the application that caused the crash has stopped working. I am familiar with this issue, as this also happened in Windows 7 when I installed it last week. "Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver XXX.XX has stopped responding and successfully recovered". The message doesn't come up in Windows 10, but I know that the issue is the same. Another thing to note is that it also happens randomly on web browsers like Chrome (and also randomly when scrolling). Note that everything is I've spent TOO much time trying to solve this issue. This issue is NOT present on the macOS side.

Some of the uncountable solutions I've tried include: reinstalling graphics drivers, installing old drivers, reinstalling Windows 7, installing Windows 10, etc.

I want to utilize this MacBook for specific work, but macOS doesn't meet my requirements. So, I installed Windows. But this problem has been nagging me for weeks. I'm losing my mental stability, losing sleep, having trouble in my personal life- overall it's a very messy situation. I finally thought I should take this to a forum.

I'm sorry that anyone had to read this whole thing, but I really need help, so I tried to list the details. This is very important to me. Any help would be highly appreciated, trust me.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

    Windows 10 GPU Issue

    GPU-Z update loop (Windows 10 64-bit)

I don't have better steps - this is all, I have nothing to add.

Maybe it is worth noting issue was on Windows 10 Enterprise, build 14393.187, so maybe you should test on the same.
My other PCs have a different Windows 10 version - Pro, latest Insider Preview build from last week, and there is no such issue on those.
All are 64-bit edition of Windows 10.

This issue is not new. I have had same 1-2 years ago too, with older GPU-Z versions.

EDIT: And yes, I have Windows 10 UAC enabled and set to defaults. If you are using your Windows PCs with UAC off, you likely cannot reproduce this issue. *Smile Windows 10 GPU Issue :)
