Windows 10 gradually slows down until I have to restart, every 1-2 days

This has been driving me insane.

As I use windows 10, it will gradually get slower and slower, until after a day or two I will have to restart, or logout.

Nothing ever shows up in task manager. No matter how bad this gets, cpu usage will typically be <10%.

Compute heavy applications will run as fast as they always do. It is *windows interactions* that slow down. For instance, typing, switching windows, pressing buttons. Typing is what really kills me. It feels like I am running windows 10 on a pentium III (I use a recent i7).

I can objectively see this happening by opening a new page in notepad++ and holding down a single key. As the letter repeats, there will be frequent lags, which last as long as a second. After logging out and logging in, the flow of letters will be smooth, with no interruptions.

Has anyone else experienced this? Apart from uninstalling random programs, how can I diagnose this?

  2. Windows 10 wifi slows down until reboot

    Hi Vijay

I have ruled out everything except the two below so far. I'm slightly reluctant as they both require a restart so i'm not sure how i will know either has worked as the speed will be fine again following the restart..... i'll have to wait till my laptop slows
    down again presumably?

    1. uninstall the network driver and restart
    2. use network reset
i'll do these final two steps shortly

    thanks

Windows 10 gradually slows down until I have to restart, every 1-2 days

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows 10 gradually slows down until I have to restart, every 1-2 days :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
