Windows 10: Windows 10 graphic card

Hi, This is my first post and although trawling back through other threads I havn`t found a previous answer to my query.

I have installed Windows 10 to my Dell desk top PC and all is OK apart from the ATI RV370 video controller which needs upgrading.

This I am more than happy to do, but replace it with WHAT? I`ve tried the manufacturers site bur can`t make any progress there.

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received. Thank-You.

How do I get the Windows 10 tool to recognize that I have a new, compatible graphics card?

The Windows 10 tool identified that my graphics card wasn't compatible with Windows 10. So I upgraded to a graphics card that is compatible with Windows 10. The problem that the tool didn't re-evaluate my system after the upgrade to see that I have a
new graphics card. I continue to get the old message (about the old graphics card). How do I get the Windows 10 tool to recognize that I have a new, compatible card?

Hi,

I want to install Windows 10 on PC (Win7), initially was not possible because the Nvidia graphics card was not supported by drivers. I replaced the old graphics card installing a supported card drivers. The problem is the control performed by Windows 10
before starting Setup detects the presence of old graphics card and blocks the update. What can I do so Windows 10 Installer update detect information about new graphics card currently in use?

 

A lot will depend on your full system specs and what you intend to use your system for. General day-to-day work, light gaming, heavy gaming, etc. Is the ATI controller integrated, or an installed card? Lots of options out there.

I`ve used the Specci` program to find out what I can. ATI RV370 Radeon X. It`s card and I want it for
general home use only (no games).

 

The RV370 (also known as an X300se) is a PCI Express X16 card, so most current cards will fit.

Looks like you can get an AMD (formerly ATI) Radeon 5450 card or an nVidia Geforce 610 for $30-35US. I don't own either one, but I imagine that both would be an upgrade over an RV370, as well as having up-to-date drivers.

Since official AMD site is hard to browse when it comes to old ATI cards, you can try the unofficial ATI driver site. Look for X300 and download the newest possible driver (with that order: Windows 8, 7, Vista). Then right-click on the setup and select Properties, then click the Compatibility tab. Check the box to enable the list and select the appropriate Windows version from the list. Also check the box to Run as Administrator. Now try to run the driver. If it cannot automatically install the driver, you can go in Device Manager (search for device to find the link). Expand display adapters and right-click on your card. Select Update driver, then the last option. Select again the last option and you should see a list of devices and a Have disk button. Click on the button and browse to the folder where the driver files were extracted (usually C:\ATI\...) Even if Windows may warn you it cannot verify compatibility, proceed to install the first X300 model found on the list and you should be OK.

PS: Direct link for ATI Mobility graphics cards. There is only a Vista 32-bit driver you can use in Windows 10 32-bit. I hope you don't have 64-bit installed. The XP driver (XPDM) is not accepted in Windows 8 or 10, only Vista or higher (WDDM).
