Windows 10: Windows 10 hangs or freezes when I click on any Microsoft Office packages inside the...

I normally use my laptop, which has windows 10 installed, for gaming. I always upgrade my os whenever a new update has been rolled out. Even I have updated my intel drivers. Recently, I had to make a word document on some assignment. After completion, I saved it inside a folder on desktop. When I went into the folder to open the MS Words document, and when I clicked on it once, the screen froze and hanged and the windows file explorer went into not responding mode. The above mentioned problem is not only with MS Words but also with every other MS Office packages like MS Excel, MS Access, etc.

When my screen hanged, I began clicking on the close button, but in vain. After a few seconds or so, the windows file explorer closed itself and every program that I had running in the background gets minimised and the desktop refreshes itself.

Can anyone please share the remedy for this conundrum.


NOTE: Even though I can't open any MS Office package inside the windows file explorer, as it will trigger that problem I mentioned above, I am able to open the MS Office application if it is present on the desktop and if there is no need to get into a file explorer to open the application

How is this news or surprising to anyone?

Especially when there are viable and arguably better open-source alternatives out there.. For those of us who don't use Microsoft Office, this isn't a problem.
