Windows 10: Windows 10 hard drive issues?

So idk what I did. My computer has been sluggish lately so I thought I might try the old msconfig and disable some startup items. Well that didn’t work out to well needless to say. So I put it all back to normal. Fast forward 12 hours later I’m just sitting listening to youtube on my couch and my PC crashes.

Every time I booted up it took like 3 mins to load everything up which is crazy. On top of that I just noticed that my E:\ drive which is nothing more that storage was running on task manager at 100%. I thought huh that’s weird why is that running at 100%. I though I should unplug it and run the pc again since the OS is on Ssd. I rebooted and bam everything back to super fast.

Questions 1. Why did my E:\ storage drive put my pc task manger show it at 100% and run my pc incredibly slow.
Q2 Is that drive broken now? Q3 what are some steps I can use to diagnose this hdd

I’m kinda scared to plug it back in. I have so much data on there idk what to do.

TLDR: my storage drive running at 100% making pc unuseable. Removed the drive and pc runs perfect. Options?

Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

Steps to confirm issue:

• Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
• Secondary drive not visible in device manager
• Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

Steps to replicate issue:

• Installing 1909 update

Steps to resolve issue:

• Uninstall 1909 update

Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

 

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
