  1. Windows 10 Home [3.5-hour] update changed: display, Edge settings, brightness scale, typing lag

Help!! I have a new computer (less than 1 month old) and I've already received 2 or 3 updates. The latest update took nearly 3.5 HOURS (with no access to the computer during) to complete Windows 10 Home [3.5-hour] update changed: display, Edge settings, brightness scale, typing lag :( Now there are a lot of problems with the computer:

    1. The display settings were changed, the folders and files appear tiny. I went into settings and it says they are at "100% size". The resolution is 1920 x 1080 and it is greyed so I have no way to change the resolution.

    2. I can't change the brightness. The keyboard buttons for brightness (F11 and F12) no longer work and there is nothing in the Settings for brightness (I looked around in there -and- I used the search function but found nothing for brightness). So I'm stuck with it on super dim, my eyes are strained just to see what's on the screen.

    3. Microsoft Edge -- like the computer display, the font is tiny. I can temporarily change this using Ctrl+ but I have to do this for every new pay and every time I open Edge

    4. Microsoft Edge -- the tabs are no longer movable -- I can't drag them (to re-arrange the order or to drag into a new window).

    5. The keyboard is lagging -- there is a delay between me typing and the characters appearing on screen

There are probably other issues that I haven't found yet. Ugh...I am VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!!

    :)

  3. Windows 10 Home [3.5-hour] update changed: display, Edge settings, brightness scale, typing lag

Sounds like a new version of Windows 10 was installed, thats why it took so long.

First, try restarting your graphics driver:

    Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B

    If that does not work...

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Properties

    Click Driver tab

Click Rollback driver if the option is available

    If not

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Uninstall

Check the box that says, "Delete the driver software for this device.”

    Exit Device Manager

    Restart

Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.

You might need to update the display driver from the manufacturer of your computers website.

If you have an nVidia, AMD ATI video card or Intel HD graphics installed, you can download the latest drivers from their website.

First, determine what type of graphics you have installed.

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Once you have determined the graphics driver, go the vendors website and search for the driver in the download section:

Intel - Downloads for Graphics Drivers - Drivers & Software - Intel

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/...

nVidia - Download Drivers | NVIDIA

AMD ATI - Download Drivers - AMD Support

AMD Drivers and Support for Radeon, Radeon Pro, FirePro, APU, CPU, Ryzen, desktops, laptops

Some of these sites offer autodetect options.

If you are able to successfully update your display driver:

Open Start > Settings > System > Display

Make sure recommended settings are selected for Scale and Layout and Screen resolution.

Choose 125 to 150% to see if it helps.

If you have WIndows 10 1803 installed.

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1803, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Spring Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

    or

Press Control + Alt + Delete

    Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen

Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart

Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1803 again. See instructions how to block it:

  4. Windows 10 Home [3.5-hour] update changed: display, Edge settings, brightness scale, typing lag

How do I globally disable display auto-scaling?

    Hi,

In reply to your query with disabling automatic scaling while connecting an external interface.

The scaling is adjusted with the display resolution in dots per inch (DPI) with device you connecting with your PC and its by design.

However you can set a custom scaling level.

To set a custom scaling level :

    1. Type "dpiscaling" in the search area on the taskbar and select dpiscaling.

    2. Change the scaling settings in the display window.

    3. In the display window, you can click on set a custom scaling level option and check if it helps.

Also you can provide us your valuable suggestion in our feedback app.

    Follow the steps :

    1.Type Feedback in search bar.

    2. Select/double click the Feedback app from the listed option in search.

    3. Follow online instruction.

Keep us informed with the status of the issue.
