Windows 10 Home 64 bit Version 1703 boot and email problems

Since MS upgraded me to this version I have had numerous problems. I even rest back to ver. 1607 but didn't help. Now my email reader SeaMonkey 2.48 takes forever to download emails and even longer to read them. It normally goes back to normal speed when all emails have downloaded. Another words it is not on line. It works fine in Windows Safe Mode. It does not make a difference if I use Safe Mode in SeaMonkey. I tried Thunderbird and got the same results. Anyone know what changed in Windows to cause this problem?

In addition every now and then after booting up the mouse pointer, screen and keystrokes all freeze. Requires a reboot. Sometimes after booting I get the blue screen saying sending information to MS and 100 % safe to reboot. Other times after booting the screen goes white with black jumbled text across it, frozen. When will MS stop toying with their software and create something that works without problems?

    :)

Hi JT Snake. Welcome to the TenForums @JT Snake

On the boot I assume this is a boot from powering up. At a command Prompt(admin) or Powershell(Admin) issue this command

    powercfg -h off

This shuts off hibernation which in turns disables Windows Fast Startup. To reverse change the word off to on in command.

Please power off router, wait thirty seconds and power on.

You didn't mention what Anti Virus's are you running. Are you running NoScripts or any other kind of software that protects you or guards your privacy?

Since Safe Mode (Windows) cleared the situation it sounds like you have a software conflict. You can use this process to determine root cause.

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

Thanks for the suggestion, Ken. I followed the Clean Boot you suggested. I got to Step 6 then I the "system Not Responding" in the System Configuration Menu Bar. It never ended. I couldn't get out without physically rebooting the computer which booted up in normal mode. No changes made in System Configuration were applied. Any ideas?

I am using Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. I am the only user of mu desktop which is 7 years old. Fast Startup is off and I use the High Performance setting in Power Options.

Re: your SeaMonkey 2.48 question - I have no answer other than few observations.
Not sure that NoScript monitors email client downloads.
It definitely will monitor when you clink on mailed links to see them in the SM browser.
That said, it might be a mail provider issue. For instance, recently yahoo mail (IMAP) is a pain. It sends login information and cycles again and again, then it opens inbox and cycles. And mail forwarding is totally mangled.
Yet in the same SeaMonkey 2.48 with NoScript, other IMAP mails are ok for me.

I don't have NoScript in my Extensions for SeaMonkey 2.48. I use POP3 as I only use my desktop for emails. It takes about half an hour to download 300 emails and during download moving message to message is extremely slow. Once downloading is done once outside the Inbox and into sub folders SeaMonkey works normally. As I mentioned earlier SM 2.48 works perfectly when Windows 10 Home 64 bit is in Safe Mode.

  9. Sorry, not being able to do an clean boot does not make sense.

Have you run sfc /scannow just to see.

When you are downloading mail what does task manager say about cpu, memory disk?

Less than 2% cpu usage and about 120 meg of memory used. I have an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor 2.80 GHz and 4.00 GB of memory. Since I am also having a lot of boot up problems; like freezing at POST screen, mouse freezing just after Windows running and sudden reboots just to mention a few. I thought I would see how old my CMOS battery is. It is just over 2 1/2 years old. I wonder if that could be part of my problem. I have ran the scannow numerous times and all is fine. What do you think Caledon Ken?

  11. Ouch, this has turned into more than my mail downloads slow.

Open Reliability History and see what it is reporting. Don't like hearing you are having lots of boot up issues. Is hibernation still disabled?

A 2.5 year old CMOS battery should be good but there is no rule. If your CMOS battery was that shaky I imagine you would be asked to enter Setup on a regular basis.

I would head to the manufacturer of your board website and see if there is a BIOS update. I'm not saying update your BIOS, I'm suggesting you see if they've posted one.

Sudden reboots, lets see if you can stop that so you see what happened. Windows Key + R, type sysdm.cpl, enter. Click on advance tab, then Settings in Startup and recovery, remove check mark from Automatic restart. Also remove check mark on Over write existing file.
If your machine is BSOD's then you will have to follow the steps in the section of forum. Having a couple of dumps may show similarities.

Post back. Might be time to try inplace repair / upgrade.

Just got home, tried to boot computer. Computer came on, I could hear hard drive, lights on, no beeps. Noticed hard drive light not on. Hit reboot button numerous times before POST screen appeared. Tried to boot but didn't until finally I got an IRQL driver error on blue screen. Said to reboot. After a few more trys got the Start Up screen and chose 5, start in safe mode with networking. This is where I am now. Fortunately, SeaMonkey works perfectly in this mode so I got your message. I think if my CMOS battery is done as I had problems similar to this a couple of years ago. CMOS battery not expensive, couldn't hurt to change it.

  14. Okay. Your next objective should be getting your data off machine.

I think I would clean install given issues.
