Windows 10: Windows 10 home activation

Upon installation of windows, i chose the option to activate it by using a product key at a later date. Due to windows not being activated, I was unable to update it, and now windows says that is missing important security and quality fixes and prompting me to update it soon.


In order to activate windows on a currently inactivated device, what would need to happen? Could i simply buy a windows key then plug it in and be able to continue using my computer as it was? Would i still be able to update?

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
