Windows 10: Windows 10 Home---Automatic Sleep, automatic screen lock stop working soon after Fresh install.

Hello: I have an HP Pavillion 15--cc059nr running Windows 10 Home current installation below. I set the computer to have the screen shutoff and sleep after just 1 minute for both battery only and plugged in mode, and set the screen saver to go blank after 1 minute and lock the computer.


This will only work after I do a fresh installation of the operating system I created the recovery USB drive from Microsoft's website today. This final time I verified that the machine would go to sleep if untouched for 1 minute, created a restorepoint, and then verified that it still would sleep after 1 minute of being untouched. I then saw that it was doing updates and installations still and a message said that I needed to restart. After the restart, the automatic lock no longer functions. I installed no additional software, had the MS Windows installer format the Windows partition before installing, and the only peripheral on the machine is a wired mouse.


Once the machine fails to automatically lock, even if I restore the restore point I created when the feature worked, it remains unlocked if left inactive.


The only way I can get the automatic lock/sleep to work is to do a full reinstall, but then it only works until it automatically installs some other stuff.


For me, this is a serious problem. On all my devices I use automatic lock features to reduce the damage that can be caused by potential theft of a device.

Stop windows automatic driver install

I'm having a problem with installing a nvidia card. windows 7 automatically installs some wdm 1.1 drivers, then when i install the 195.39 drivers, it gives me less performance. like the cards lags in games when it should run fine.

how can i stop windows from installing the drivers automatically ?

i tried checking the "don't install drivers from windows update" in device manager. it still installs it.

Microsoft to push automatic Windows 10 upgrades in 2016

"Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be automatically rolled out next year to all users of its older operating systems who have selected to receive updates.

Until now, users of Windows 7 and 8 have needed to register to upgrade to Windows 10. But that's about to change: soon the OS will be listed as an 'Optional Update' and -- from 2016 -- a 'recommended' update that will automatically install itself, if users have opted to receive updates in that way.*Shadedshun :shadedshu:

You can opt out of automatic updates to avoid this, but Microsoftsays that "we strongly discourage this in today’s connected world because of the constant risk of internet threats". You can also change your Windows Update settings to install critical updates but not recommended ones. Although it's still going to be possible to avoid installation, Microsoft seems quite determined for everyone to be using Windows 10 in near future.


The roll-out of reserved updates was initially staggered but, according to Microsoft, now Windows "will automatically kick off the upgrade process once you have made a reservation".

As an intermediate stage, Microsoft says that it will "soon" publish Windows 10 as an optional update, not installed by default, but accessible to all users."
