Windows 10: Windows 10 Home license transfer/reactivation problem

Hi to whom it may concern,



I will list my problem below:


I have an old laptop with active licenses. Its not OEM. I used to have win7 witch I upgraded years back. I don't have cd key anymore.

I bought new laptop with no windows.

I formatted old laptop.

I installed new laptop from official source.

Waited 24h for it to activate on new machine but it did not. Used troubleshooting, and in reactivation window there was only old machine visible.

Reinstalled old laptop and it activated in seconds.


Now I have two laptops, activated old and not activated new.

I need help transferring licenses, please. Been trying to reach a microsoft person via chat bot and the local support number but nothing answers anywhere.

i bought the license. My laptop was originally loaded with win 7 and was upgraded free couple of months.

in this case, if i understand you correctly, i can transfer with below steps. Right.?

let me buy my new laptop and try below.

and to my question do you have an update.

does OS upgrades if my activation key is changed.

Windows 10 license transfer

There is no actual deactivation method.

You can only transfer the license if its a retail license. If it came with the laptop you can't transfer it.

You can first uninstall the key.

Open Start, type: cmd

Right click CMD

Click Run as administrator

At the command prompt, type:

slmgr -upk

Hit Enter

Next, proceed to upgrade the new laptop:

You might need to reactivate by chat support since the license was previously in use.

Uninstalling a product key does not deactivate the license, there is actually no deactivation method. You would still need to contact support to actually invalidate the license on the old machine, so it can reactivate on the new machine.

Transferring the license is a step by step process.

First, you either remove the license from the machine by formatting it.

Install it on the new machine.

Contact chat support, then reactivate.

Where Digital license is handy is when you are still using the machine and reinstall Windows 10 and need to reactivate the license after a significant hardware change, such as a hard disk.
