Windows 10: Windows 10 Home upgrade through MS Store to Windows 10 Pro won't activate

I have a new Lenovo Yoga laptop that came with Windows 10 Home installed. I needed Hyper-V capabilities, which isn't included in Home, so I followed the "Upgrade your edition of Windows" link which eventually took me to the Windows Store, where I paid $99 to get Windows 10 Pro. It ran through the installation process and rebooted my laptop. Everything seemed fine until I noticed the "Activate Windows" notice at the lower right corner of my screen.


I went to Settings to try to activate, and I got this message: "We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or product key. .... Error code: 0xC004C003."


I also noticed that my version of Windows now says Windows 10 Enterprise!


I tried Lenovo Support, and they transferred me to a Microsoft number that led me through some automated prompts that told me that my OEM license might not be able to be upgraded, then hung up on me.


Has anyone run into this? I'm out $99 for a version of Windows I can't activate.

Windows 10 Activation (Insider)

Like Pill Monster said no more Windows 10 keys for Insiders. It was on Microsoft Blog they said that all that stuff is tied to one machine. You can upgrade anytime but never make a clean install. Those people who upgraded from 7 or 8.1 to 10 can do a clean install of RTM and post-RTM builds. A friend of mine upgraded from RTM to 10533 or whatever the latest post-RTM build is (and it activated just fine).

After all MS isn't stupid to give Windows 10 for free.

If you upgraded to Windows 10 for free and ended up in a non-activated state, try following these steps:

or you could hack it with a crack but please note this is always risky and you don't know what's in the hack

 

Windows 10 Activation (Insider)

This kinda sucks. However, if one is upgrading from a retail W7/8, then it should activate on different hardware, with possible phone activation required if it's been over 120 days or whatever the timeout period is now since the last activation. Remember to erase the copy on the old hardware, of course.
