Windows 10: Windows 10 - how can I change my wireless network from public to private?

Hi,


I just bought a brand new PC with Windows 10 Professional and I am in the process of setting it up. I connected it via wifi to my small office LAN, from which it was automatically assigned an IP address via DHCP from my wireless router in the range 192.168.2.x. Not only will I use this wifi connection to access the internet, I also plan to use it for file sharing with a few other PC's on the same LAN. I am pretty sure that to make this work on the other PC's, I had to tell Windows 10 in Network and Sharing Center that this wifi connection is "Private". Currently, Network and Sharing Center shows the wifi connection as a "Public Network". This is "grayed out" and I am unable to change it.


If anyone here can tell me how I can change this wifi network from public to private, I would greatly appreciate it.

Windows 10 change wireless network from public to private

Since updating from 8 to windows 10 my internet connection is listed as Public and I cant seem to get it at the Private mode and some one help me here?

 

Change Network from Public to Private

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to
change your network from Public to Private:

• 
  Type PowerShell in Search Window and then right click on it and click on
  Run as Administrator.
  
• 
  Type the following command to find your interface Index:
  Get-NetConnectionProfile
  
• 
  Use your interface index (for example 5) with this command:
  Set-NetConnectionProfile -InterfaceIndex 5 -NetworkCategory Private
  
• 
  Now reboot the device and check if the network has changed from Public to Private.

Change WiFi Network to Private from Public

After upgrading to windows 10, my wireless network went from Private to Public. How do I change it to a private network? The "Public" in network settings is not clickable.
