Windows 10: Windows 10 HP Officejet Pro 8620 Will not print

Eset nod32. I tried printing with NOD32 disabled with the same negative results.

I have an HP 8600 AIO installed on Win10 (and 2 Win7 boxes), running Kaspersky.
There is an advanced setting in Kaspersky under networking that must be set to "local" or "trusted" in order for printing to occur.
You might want to check ESET NOD 32 for a similar network setting.

Also, you can connect the HP AIO to multiple computers different ways (USB (local), ethernet and/or wifi).
I see that you've already done some troubleshooting on that end.
But, one thing to note: if you use "network" connection via ethernet, either directly to the computer or to a router, you need to turn off the Wifi in the printer settings (from the dashboard setup menu directly on the printer itself).
You can use USB + ethernet, or USB + wifi, or ONLY wifi/ethernet/USB.
But you cannot use both ethernet and wifi at the same time.
So, you might want to check this, although the printer and/or software GUI should warn you if you try to do both....

One other thing, if we don't end up sorting this here. I have found HP phone support for these sorts of things to be quite good. If the printer is under warranty, you might give them a call. They can walk you through it, with or without a remote screen share.
You'll need the printer model AND serial number when you call. I can dig up the toll-free number, if you need it.

The printer isn't defective. It works perfectly fine with my android devices and Windows 7 computers.

Try disabling the firewall and see if it will print.

 

How did you install it? With the disc or a download from HP?

My suggestion was to let Windows provide the driver - I can't tell where the driver came from.

The other point of failure might be in the spooler - is there any in the print queue?
If that is the cause, events should be logged - check event viewer (an easy way to do this is to look at properties in Device Manager - there should be an events tab)

MoxieMomma mentioned AV products and you said that you disabled ESET. It isn't enough to just disable ESET, you have to uninstall it (there were also two registry keys involved at one point, but that was a while ago and I can't locate a reference). I'm not sure if ESET is the cause, but there are known issues with ESET and many other AV products. The common resolution to the known issues is to install an upgraded version of the product using the vendor's prescribed method.

It's a bit tangled, but if you read enough on the ESET support pages you'll see that they recommend uninstalling the existing product before installing the upgraded product.

I go one step further and suggest that after uninstalling through Features and Programs, people use the ESET Uninstaller to clean up any residual pieces. Most vendors reserve their tool for problematic uninstalls. I suggest it because of that (the tool knows what areas might cause issues and fixes them) which might prevent problems down the line.

I agree with @Slartybart's advice, with the exception of allowing Windows to provide the driver.
I am no expert in Windows or hardware or drivers, but it has been my long experience over the years with HP printers and my limited experience with those devices under Win10 that it is probably advisable to obtain the software/drivers from HP.

I do NOT in any way disparage @Slartybart's suggestions, but I respectfully suggest that the HP drivers/downloads source is probably the best place to go for the most current, Win10-compatible drivers:

They offer both a basic driver package and the full package with all the bloatware.
They also have excellent tutorials and even demo videos.
And their phone support for in-warranty products is quite good.

I likewise did not find it necessary to uninstall KIS before installing my HP software. However, doing so would be a good idea, at least for troubleshooting purposes. If everything works OK with ESET NOD32 uninstalled, then that will narrow down the cause of the problem.

I agree with both @Slartybart and @play2mefish that the firewall or a related setting might be blocking the printing.
I know that to be the case with KIS -- there is a simple setting that needs tweaking. It might also be the case with ESET NOD32. Tweaking that setting (if it exists), or uninstalling it completely temporarily will help to tease that out.

The point of letting Windows Update provide the driver is that it has not been tried.

Downloading the driver from HP has been tried.

I'm not sure printer driver issue though - just wanted to eliminate a possible driver issue from troubleshooting.

There are two other suggestions

1) Run Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View All (left pane)
Hardware and Devices
Printers
2) Dism & SFC

I'll wait for answers from my print queue question before moving forward.

Your suggestions make me think about other possible causes - keep 'em coming *Wink

I didn't scan over the full thread, however I have an Officejet Pro 8620 installed wireless and working perfect in Win 10. I used the drivers from the HP site. I have two desktops and one laptop (all Win 10) and it is working on all three.

I've never had much faith that M$ would be very good at finding the right drivers for 3rd-party peripherals.
But everything is worth trying in this case.

This does seem very odd. I've always found HP printers/AIOs to install and run pretty painlessly under everything from XP to 10 (skipping H8). With my limited knowledge, I am stumped.

I guess it will turn out to be either something very simple or something very complicated.

I hope @robdam1001 will have a favorable status update for us.
Until then, the suspense is killing me.*Biggrin

*UPDATE: I installed the HP Officejet Pro 8720 with the exact same results. My W10 PC is unable to print. All other W7 PC's are able to print wirelessly to the 8720. I then uninstalled ESET NOD32 on my W10 PC. I rebooted. Same result; no printing. I'm truly at a loss on this.
