Windows 10: Windows 10 ignores my default home page and opens Google

I know how to set the Home Page, and I've had it set quite some time. But the last few days Windows 10 has opened at the Google search page several times. I haven't made any changes. I'd like to know how to fix this.


When it opens on the Google search page, if I click on the "home" icon it goes to my default home page. This started happening after Windows tried to do an upgrade, and I got an error message that it couldn't complete the upgrade due to the reserve partition. It's tried a couple more times, same error message. Windows has kept trying, not me.


I don't know that the two issues are related. I had the reserve partition problem quite awhile back, and apparently it resolved itself. Had several other upgrades since then and they went fine. Until now. I'm not asking for help on the upgrade. I just mentioned it because of the timing. Thanks for any help.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Unable to set up Google as default search engine in Windows Edge

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description you are unable to set Google as default search engine. Here are the steps which might help you to set it as default search engine or home page.

• Open Windows edge.
• Click on More actions (Three dots ...)
• Click on settings.
• Click on view advanced settings.
• Turn on "Show the home button"
• Enter the URL of the website which you want to set as your home page.
• Close the Windows edge and open it again you will be able to get you desired webpage as your home page.

Mail "Unable to open ..." and duplicate Google Chrome in Default apps

Thanks for suggestion! But for now to change mail app is not an option tho I'll look into it later *Smile

Want to post a quick update. Today I ran latest CCleaner and fixed all the issues it found with registry then restarted my pc. After restart problem with Mail "Unable to open ..." was gone and still gone after several restarts. All links being successfully opened with default correct Google Chrome. But duplicate Google Chrome still remains in default browser selection list in Default apps. That would be great to surgically remove it but until then I guess I can ignore it. I won't mark this issue as solved coz completely it's not.
