You are assuming 17134 will be released to Slow. That is not a given.

Not a given, true, but very likely.

  5. It's OK if they release it to Slow, as long as they don't stick it in Release Preview, it is not nearly as bug-free as MS thinks/hopes. A LOT of bug squashing to do still...

It is probably no less bug infested than any previous initial versions were.

For most people, it will run fine. In the end, you just have to get it out there.

While there are known bugs, new Windows editions should absolutely NOT be released to the public under any circumstances, even if it runs fine for most users. But for unknown bugs, there is not much one can do, they will reveal themselves eventually...

Currently publicly released Windows versions are all in what I would call "consistent Beta cycle", and many high quality software developers agree with this. Most developers would not even consider releasing such software without huge disclaimers and warning banners that usage is at own risk and that the developer should not be held responsible for any possible damage caused to the system if such software is used. And the developers would not either force these updates on the user under any circumstances, which MS does, and it's a really bad thing.

While core Windows should be, has been and also is fairly stable and reliable at every release stage, all this WUP-app mumbo jumbo is not, and never will be. Another issue is that because of this fast paced core OS changes, driver vendors can't keep up with the rapid changes.

Some known bugs could take months to sort. It is a business judgement if the bugs will have a serious impact. Thr issue is more about awareness.

  10. This is where the judgement has failed. Take Edge for instance. It has been buggy, or at least functions around it has been buggy since Windows 10 initial release. It has taken years to get it even remotely reliable and it still has a long way to go.

In my eyes, this is a really bad business decision, since MS has been aware of this from the start and the fix is easy really compared to other more complex things going on in Windows.

It might be preloaded and doesn't let CCleaner to clear the cache and stuff?
Go to settings > privacy > Background apps and turn off Edge from there.

ah i found it. quite alot of new features to play with in this new build of Windows 10. it doesn't list Edge, only Mail and Calendar, Photos and Skype. there is another option "let apps run in background". but doesn't say which apps they are..

You are ignoring the simple fact that you do not have to use Edge. Most Edge bugs are irritating - not showstoppers. I certainly do not want development held up because of irritating bugs.

I am very happy for you to hold back on upgrading whilst I use it asap, and report significant issues, so when you finally upgrade, then you get the benefit of my (and other trailblazers) unselfish efforts on your behalf, and you will be happy as we will have picked up issues that would not have manifested until much later if the release was held up *Smile.

  15. That is real Progress..When they first started this program it was faster. Mine only tool a little over 2 hours with 4 failures. I would still like to know what the known issues were that were fixed in this build. Maybe Zac Bowden knows?*Wink
