Hi,I'm trying to conduct a fresh install of Windows 10 on my PC. I have created a bootable USB on another device, booted from this USB and followed the prompts to install windows up until the point where I am prompted to restart my machine. At this point I remove my USB so circumvent any issues with boot priority settings. I expect the computer to boot into the fresh install of windows on the SSD and complete the installation but instead I get only as far as the BIOS where no drives are recognised. If I leave the USB in, the computer boots from the USB into the first step of the installation pr

  3. Windows 10 install stopped on restart. Now PC won't boot

    Hi Sam,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting. We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

I understand the inconvenience that you are unable to upgrade to Windows 10, which hangs and prompts an error 0xc000000d. We will help you to resolve the issue.

I suggest you to disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse, keyboard and the recovery media) and check.

If you doesn't have a recovery media then you can create USB recovery drive from a working Windows 8 computer from the following link or contact your computer manufacturer for the recovery disc.

    Create a USB recovery drive:

Create a USB recovery drive - Microsoft Support

I would suggest you to follow these steps and try to fix the Windows 8 boot issue:

    • Boot from the recovery media.
    • Click on Repair your computer.
    • Click on Troubleshoot and then select Advanced Options.
    • Click on Command prompt and type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
    • Bootrec /fixmbr
    • Bootrec /fixboot
    • Bootrec /rebuildbcd
    5. Restart the computer

    6. Check if the issue persists.

I suggest you to install Windows 10 using the media creation tool and check if it helps:

Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of the issue, we will be happy to help you.

  4. Windows 10 Install - after restart computer not recognising a drive to boot from

Windows 8 install restarts then boots old Win 7 OS.

Sucks to put up a new thread for this, but can't quite get the search terms correct.

I have a computer downstairs with two hard disks. The first has Windows 7 and the second is just a data storage drive. I used Windows 7 management to shrink the OS drive, to free up space and then formatted a new volume with the spare space.

I then installed Windows 8 onto the net partition. It gets through the setup, copying files, and then restarts the system. After doing so, the computer boots into Windows 7.

Why is it not resuming the Windows 8 install?

I hit F8 during boot and checked, there are no OS options other than Windows 7.
