Windows 10: Windows 10 Install Failure

I have tried everything to get my desktop to boot from a USB stick and I just can't do it, but mine has an internal DVD drive. Have you looked in your motherboard manual, maybe, for exact instructions to boot from a USB stick?

 

Well it has booted from USBs before, just seems like Windows 10 set up is the only thing that wont boot from it.

 

A good place to start would be to contact your supplier for instructions of how to install the product that you have bought.

If this is not possible and I suspect in your case it is not you may consider upgrading a legitimate windows installation which once again I suspect you do not have.

These are the instructions to make your USB drive a boot disk.

In the command prompt, you need to execute the following commands.
Type DISKPART and hit enter.
Now, type LIST DISK and press enter to see list of disks attached to your computer. In the next step, you need to select your USB flash drive that you are using to create system recovery drive (in this example, we are selecting Disk 1).
From now on, type all the following commands one by one and then hit enter (again, please make sure that you are replacing the DISK 1 with your Disk number).
SELECT DISK 1
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS
(Format process may take few seconds)
ASSIGN
EXIT
copy all the contents.

 

Typically, OEM copies of Windows do not allow you to upgrade. They only allow clean installs. This is one of the major differences between OEM and Retail copies (the other is that you can transfer the license to another computer with retail copies).

You will likely have to reinstall from a clean disk.

 

Wrong format. Has to be FAT32. FORMAT FS=FAT32
