Windows 10: Windows 10 install stuck at black screen without cursor or anything

I've had this same problem all day... except now after so many restarts, for some reason, I can no longer get past the Alienware BIOS screen. After the F2/F12 options disappear, the spinning circle-dots never show up, then it restarts and does the same thing.

 

Update: I typed my password, and apparently my arrow key mashing selected the correct account and I booted into windows 10 desktop.

Only trouble now is that the settings window doesn't show up so I can change the resolution

 

I tweaked my BIOS settings, set the display output to IGFX, then somehow selected my account and typed in my password. The desktop appeared.

The only issue now is that the settings windows isn't appearing after clicking it. I need to change my resolution

 

Hello Everybody

I hope someone help me with regular keyboard not wireless keyboard. Windows 10 upgraded my computer today. The problem I am having right now that I am stuck on choose keyboard layout auto repair screen. My keyboard can't able to actively select any layout. Do I need a wireless keyboard and winless mouse?

Good news:

I fixed the resolution issue. Simply mashed the Win+P key until the windows showed up. What happened was that it detected my 1600x900 monitor as two separate screens. I selected the Duplicate option and changed my resolution.

All is good

 

I'm on a Dell E6520 (laptop, no external monitors) running Windows 7 Pro. Tried to do the upgrade and also got stuck on a black screen. It start up just fine and then I went out to mow the lawn. Came back in to a black screen and I couldn't do anything. Ctrl-Alt-Del had no effect, trying to do a shutdown from a command prompt by typing the right buttons didn't do anything either. I ended up just holding down the power button until it powered off.

When it came back on it says Restoring previous version of Windows. I'm not back at Windows 7.

Is there any sort of log file I can check to see what might have gone wrong? I guess I'll just try it again and see what happens...

 

I Also have a x51 r2 with multiple monitors and am so upset I just found this thread. I just started the reset process and now will have to wait a few hours to try this fix.

 

I had the same issue. After reading through this thread I realized I was having the same multi-display problem. W10 detects 2 displays when I just have 1. Win+P wasn't working for me, and I was kinda mashing buttons around and somehow turned on text-to-speech which allowed me to figure it out. Win+P menu in W10 is now vertical and has four options. PC screen only, duplicate, extend, and second screen only. So I had to press Win+P, down, down, down, then enter. Bam, login screen. Signed in, everything working fine now. I'm not sure I want to leave it at that though... now looking for a way to make windows think this is my only display.

 

Same issue with Alienware x51, just one monitor.

I feel like it is in fact an issue with conflicting video drivers since I've had a few issues with that recently. Reset has been tried a couple times and keeps stopping at the black screen.

 

How do you mashup the f8 button???
Nothing is working for me.

 

All brands have different buttons that get you into the BIOS. For Dell it's F2 I believe. Depends on what you have.

 

Alienware x51 user reporting in.

I'm pretty pissed about this right now. I've had the issue for about 12 hours now. Been looking everywhere for a solution. It was fine this morning, installed up to 15% then went to a black screen for over an hour. Nothing happened so I rebooted my computer. The Alienware boot screen showed up just fine. After it loaded past that is when I got the dimly litted black screen with my mouse cursor again.

 

So I have alienware x51. At black screen I unplugged my dvi monitor and connected via HDMI and it showed up. Haven't tried to go back to dvi yet

 

Ok so mines f2 on lenevo.
I can't see anything to get into graphics, have no clue what else I can try

 

Also should I be able to go into safe mode in BIOS, cause mine doesn't show up, been trying for 5 hours?
