Windows 10: Windows 10 install - (USB UEFI) blue/purple screen and won't install

I've very recently upgraded from an 8 year old pc (self-built) to a brand new rig, I'm unable to install Windows 10 from either DVD or USB (and I've tried creating a USB install from the Media Creation Tool and from Rufus).

I put the USB stick in a port, start the PC and I can see the "starting" spinner, then it goes to a purple/blue screen with just a mouse and it stops just there. If I press Shift and F10 I get a command window.

I've tried disabling Fast Boot in BIOS along with disabling secure boot. It always attempts to boot by UEFI. I did originally manage to install Windows 7 by leaving the motherboard driver disc in, but this doesn't work with Windows 10.

My set up is:

Core i7 7700k
ASUS Maximus VIII
Samsung 500gb SSD

Any thoughts or ideas? I think I've tried just about everything I was able to find before asking for assistance!!

Windows 10 won't start

Windows doesn't start... It goes from POST to blue error screen. Windows+X doesn't work because windows isn't running. I downloaded the installation file to a USB drive, but it won't boot to USB. When boot to USB is selected, it will POST and right
back to the blue error screen.

Are you using a USB 3.0 port? Use USB 2.0 instead.

 

Thanks, I've tried both 2 & 3, both with USB 2 & 3 sticks, all does the same, so does the DVD

Download Kyhi's recovery tools ISO file, Win14393PESE_x64 ISO v170116. Mount the ISO file. On a Windows 10 installation USB flash drive, rename the boot.wim file in the \Sources folder to boot.bak. Copy the boot.wim file from the \Sources folder of Kyhi's mounted ISO file to the \Sources folder of the Windows 10 Installation USB flash drive. Boot the computer from it. Hopefully it boots all the way into Kyhi's recovery tools. Use file explorer to find the USB flash drive and run setup.exe from it.

That booted fine, but on clicking setup.exe, and attempting to install I get the message as on the screenshot:





When I looked in device manager there were 4 devices without drivers, trying to install them from the motherboard disc didn't work, it couldn't find the drivers.

The one thing I noticed is that my computer was switched on earlier today, when I get home, around 5 hours later, "Setup is starting" was on the screen but was stuck there.

 

So, your computer needs some drivers for Windows setup to use to access the hard drive/SSD, is my guess. I've never had to load drivers for Windows setup to use. @Kari, can you help with that?

 

Never seen that in Windows 10 setup!

 

I did try this with RAID disabled and enabled in the BIOS in case that was causing a driver issue.

 

I would contact ASUS.

Although, another thought - does the motherboard have a built in Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and you are adding a video card to it? Might want to try with the video card removed, if that is the situation and go with the on board GPU to see if it is the graphics driver missing.

UNBELIEVABLY --- it's because I had the motherboard driver disc in the DVD drive!!

Thank you for your assistance, I'm going to try a "stock" clean install of Windows 10 now with the disc removed - it's odd as Windows 7 actually requires the disc in the drive during install!

 

Have you tried making sure, there is no disc in DVD drive? It seems, it works for many.

The other option would be to disconnect all devices and keep only HDD connected.
