    windows 10 install

    When windows 10 came out, I installed it and have been running it ever since. A few days ago, there was a large update. when I tried to reboot, it failed. I tried to run the restore utility and I got the message there was no restore points. Finally I had to go clear back to the original windows 7 that was installed by HP.
    Then I went to microsoft and redownloaded windows 10 os. It started the routine and then it started checking for updates. after 24 hours, I turned off the computer and rebooted. I still had my windows 7.
    What do I do now?
    I never had any probles with windows 10 until that big update a few days ago.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

    OK, so i figured it out myself

    Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

    You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

    Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

    I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

    More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

    For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

    Cheers

  3. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

    OK, so I also found out that this occurs when sleepmode (for me after 3 hours) changes into hibernate mode.

    Seems like the going into hibernate and/or starting up from HIbernate results in a shutdown. In safeboot it works perfectly.

    Anyone any idea how I can figure out where it goes wrong. Is there a way to log this (I couldn't find it in bootlog)

    The problem, I did not get anisotropic from microsoft. There were no options. Just click here and install the free version of windows 10. During the attempt to install there were no other options

  6. john john,

    Would suggest you read the following first so yo have an idea of what is ahead of you:

    *To do a clean install, start by downloading the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool:
    Windows 10

    *Double-click to start the tool and then click Yes to give it permission to make changes to your PC.

    *Next, click Accept to agree to the license terms.

    *Now, select: Create installation media for another PC and click: Next

    *The tool suggest a language, edition, and architecture (32 bit or 64 bit) for Windows, based on the information about
    the PC on which the tool is running.

    *If you are using the installation media on the PC in which you are running it, click: Next

    *If you are planning to do the install on a different PC, clear the following check box: Use recommended options for this PC. Instead, select options appropriate for the Product Key of the computer on which you will do the install, and click: Next

    *Your Product Key will only work with the same version of Windows. If your Product Key is for 64 bit Windows Pro, do not use it for 32 bit Windows Home! The selection must match what is listed on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) Product Key on the computer getting the clean install.

    *Next, select whether you want the tool to create a bootable USB flash drive with the installation media, or create
    an ISO file that you can burn to a DVD.

    *If you go with the USB option, you need a USB drive with at least 4 GB of space. Also, be aware the USB drive will get formatted during the process. Make sure there is nothing on it you need.

    *Select the option you prefer, ISO or USB, and then click: Next

    *Save the ISO file (Desktop is fine), or point the tool toward the USB drive if that is the option you want.

    *If you select the ISO, the Media Creation Tool downloads the files for the ISO, and this may take a while. When it is finished, you can click the Open DVD Burner option if you want to go ahead and create a disc. If not, click Finish.

    ~~~~
    *Now, to install Windows 10 on the appropriate computer, you need to make sure it boots from a DVD, or from a USB drive. Either change a setting in the BIOS, or access a boot menu and select the proper boot option. You will see those options at the bottom of the screen when the computer starts. You need to be fast! If not, try again.
    *Restart the computer with the DVD inserted, or, the USB drive, and boot from that device.
    *When the Windows installer starts select: Install
    *At the activation screen, since Windows 10 was installed and activated on this computer before, click: I don’t have a product key Windows will automatically activate once it is installed.
    *Proceed through the setup process until you see the following screen: Which type of installation do you want?
    *Select the following option: Custom
    *You can delete all the partitions (as Samuria suggests) and let Windows 10 install in the Unallocated space.
    *When all done, login to your cleanly installed Windows 10 system, and it should automatically activate itself after connecting to the Internet.
    *To ensure the system is activated, open the Start menu and click on: Settings > Update and Security, and go to Activation (on the left).
    *You should see: Windows is activated on the right. The edition of Windows 10 is also specified.
    If you have any questions, feel free to ask before yo start the process.!
